Hi! I have a yerf dog spiderbox with the GY6 150cc engine that won't start. Cant figure this one out. I have gas, a good spark, compression is good (blow your finger off the plug hole) checked the valves (.003 on the intake and .004 exaust) .....Im lost! This is what is strange.....I put a timing light on the engine.....when I hold the plug about 1/4 in from the frame, I get a good spark and the timing light flashes. When I ground the plug to the frame, I still get a spark across the contact but the timing light will not flash! Huh?? Is this a bad plug?
Thanks!

Crap! I found the problem! Sheered the flywheel key. Also damaged the keyway in the crank! Not gonna replace crank so I'm going to try the "Loctite 660" keyway repair. Has anyone done this before? Any other ways to repair wallowed out keyways? Thanks for all your help, Guys!

yes, there a couple of different ways depending on how bad it is.1st since the cranks keywat is rolled over, dont file it down hammer in down lightly towards the slot pushing the steel back into the slot as much as possible then you can use lock\tite or JB weld.Make sure it sets completely with the flywheel on.2nd youll have to square out the the keyway and make a key to fit. They are metric keys.Hope this helps.

Thanks, Karl. I'll try that! It's pretty bad but the right side of the keyway is still there for a reference point. Do you know what size the stock woodruff key is? Guess I just find one that fits the groove in the flywheel?
Thanks!

Got a quick question.....I have a spare GY6 150 engine that has an 8 pole stator and flywheel on it. Can I move this over to my engine (that has the bad keyway) ? It now has a 6 pole stator. Is there any wiring changes or just a better stator?
Thanks!

shouldn't be alot go to the 8 pole stator as a upgrade when 6 poles go bad.

Make sure you match flywheels with the stator or you will not get sufficient output voltage.

OK. Going to try the JB Weld this weekend to fix the keyway. Got a question.....when I took it all apart, the key was sheered off completly, the keyway was wallowed out and I noticed the fan was broke in a bunch of places. The flywheel nut was NOT loose! Before I sold this kart (ugg!) I put the flywheel on and torqued it to the factory specs! Was running super! What could they have done to the kart to cause this damage?? Any ideas? Help! And thanks!!

OK, guys! Cleaned out what was left of the keyway on the crank. Put the woodruff key in the slot as far to the right as I could (still had a good side on the right of the slot). Filled up the slot with JB Weld and installed a new flywheel (old flywheel was wallowed out). Using my cool "home made" flywheel holder tool (instructions on how to make one is here on the net) I put Loctite on the threads and torqued the flywheel nut to 60 ft. lbs! Put it all back together and after giving the JB weld 24 hours to cure.....it cranked right up and runs super! Thanks for your help and I hope this helps others! =D>

What do you mean by match the flywheel? This an alignment adjustment or do you have to swap the flywheel out?

6 pole stator you have to use the 6 pole flywheel with it
8 pole with 8 pole flywheel
it has to do with the magnets in flywheel
