Consider also that the Commando is a 4x4. That may have some bearing on the top speed in the tranny. It may be possible to swap out the lower gear sets and have the best of both machines. That is something that I could discuss with the mechanics at Team Joyner.

Glade

Did this discussion ever happen? There are some 650 owners that wouldn't mind losing some speed for lower gearing.

The differential output shafts are different between the SandSpider and Commando, but the clutch is identical and there are only two different parts in the transmission:

The First Shaft Assembly - Commando 1701131 - SandSpider 1701130

Shift Lever for First and Second Gears - Commando 1702014 - SandSpider 1702017

Can Joyner let us know what is different about these parts and are they interchangeable?

To all.
the newer spider and the commando have the same trans. gearing.. The commando is lower because of the front and rear diff's. they are 2:1 cutting the ratio in half. Dont buy a trans because you will be ticked to fine out we are right.

Now with that said, the early 05's 650 did have a different geared trans than the 07 +. lower 1-3 gear
I hope this helps

guess that pretty well answered that question... Thanks turbo (checked out your home pg. Cool ... the 650cc on your site is 2008 ?? Is Awesome !! )

4 my terrain, & riding prefences... I want to drop top speed !! It will do 65 on slight down slope, & do not want my kids to have the capability of going this fast-when dads not looking !! Tire swap from 25" to 24" will help me (but not enough) & 23" I think too small 4 anything but dunes, which is only 35% of our riding time.

3:1 ratio ?? this is pretty extreme (where would that put aprox. top speed ?? ) or U mean only lowered 1st thru 3rd gear ??... R there any other options Im missing ?? (new to the Big buggy thing, so bear w/me; if this has been disscussed on another past post - Where ? my Search function often leads a astray)
Thanks
