Maybe the lower gearing is in the front/rear diffs but trans is same ???

Thanks for looking into it, I think better ratios on these buggies would help almost as much as a carb upgrades.

I really need a lower 1st gear to help me crawl over the real rocky sections but also a nice upper end for the open desert.

My '06 650 crawled some rocky inclines in Ocotillo Wells area while following bikes. The motor has great low end torgue and I had no problem. The jump between 3rd and 4th is almost like going to 5th so the top end isn't hurt.

Thanks for all the input. I haven't bought the buggy yet and he may have already sold it. I thought a new transmission would cost more than $800 or $900. I don't knoe how bad the engien is but teh guy selling the buggy took it in trade for some trailer work or something. He said the guy that owned the buggy took the transmission into a shop to have it fixed and they said it wasn't repairable. Aparently he left the bad trans at the shop because all of it is apparently missing. I think the other owner must have run the buggy into the ground so the motor is probably trashed too. By the way he wants $600 for it and that's even if he still has it. Is that an OK price? Here is a picture from the ad.

What I did was ask him for a list of missing parts, then called joyner for a price on all that was needed. I came up with about 3000.00 for all the parts and then you have to put it all together to have a worn out buggy. 3500 buys you a nice used one that is ready to ride. That was why i passed on it.

I think its only a good price if the rolling chassis is in good shape and you want to repower it with something bigger and faster. Other than that I would get one that already runs good and has not been abused.

I wish I could drive a newer one to see the difference in the ratio's & if it's worth the money. 2006 they changed the trans to lower ratio.

It was listed in the Arizona Craigslist on Dec 18th. I haven't had time to stop by and look at it with all the Holliday stuff going on.

Ive driven the2006 and own a 2005 and like the 2005 better. except for 4th gear. it is too high in the 2005, it is like an overdrive. the 2006 makes 1st gear kinda useless most of the time. Ideal would be a combination of the two with a little taller first than the 06 and a little shortwer 4th than the 05. Or bettert yet a 5 speed with the granny low that you only need once in a while and the overdrive 4th of the 05 that is rarly used as well.

We can only dream. A 5 speed would be great
