I've finally got the gear box out and open. Looks like there are a couple of teeth on the final gear missing so it will need to be replaced. The parts manual shows the gear and the shaft separate, the shaft on mine is fine. Well now that it's out I find that the gear is welded to the shaft!! What's the deal? It's a really nice weld looks factory.
Was this an older model than my manual, or maybe newer than my parts manual? Is this gear shaft assembly sold, or do I just need to buy the shaft and gear as a replacement? If I do that should I weld them together like the original?

Mine does not have the high and low range.
I'm pretty sure it's the right manual. Although I'v seen much better diagrams, but I guess that about par for cheap Chinese equipment.
I've also googled it and it shows up the same way on the other manuals I've seen. I guess I'd be curious if anyone else has had their gearbox torn down and could comment on what they found.

I've never had a CN250 gearbox apart. However on the GY6, there is a gear pressed on the inside shaft going to the clutch. Perhaps some variations of the CN250 are welded and others are machine pressed?

I looked at the manual again. The gear is drawn with a coarse spline in the center and shows a smooth shaft, so I guess they didn't really do a lot of detail editing on the manual.
I'm guessing I could order a shaft and a gear and put them together. My question then would be why did they decide to go back and weld everything together?
On mine it looks like the gear was pressed on, and there is a key in the shaft. Then they added the weld. Maybe a belt and suspenders mentality? They didn't just tack it in a couple of places, it's done all the way around really well.

thanks for the reply, I received a response from Reliable this afternoon saying that the part numbers had been superseded to a shaft/gear assembly. Haven't gotten the price yet though, I'm afraid it might be a big ouch!
