I had my 800cc joyner out last weekend and set up the carb before going out and my buggy going on flat ground wont go above 72km/h. i set the carb again to make sure and everything was fine there but there was no power. in reverse it would have no power to climb onto my trailer. I wasnt able to check my timing but would this cause the lack in power? any suggestions would be awesome. thanks

Hello,
There are a lot of factors involved with this and not enough information.
Ask yourself some questions- When was the last time it was running good? What did I do, or what happened between that last time and when it starting running bad?
If "I" didn't do anything and it ran fine when I parked it last time, but it now runs bad.....check fuel and spark.
If "I" did something and now it runs bad...undo what "I" did and see what happens.
As far as what the problem is... Does it idle well once it is warmed up but will not go when you push the throttle? If yes... clean/replace or remove the fuel filter and try it again.
Is the distributor housing retaining bolt tight? If so the timing didn't move, but while your at it, make sure the plug wires and connections to the coil are nice and snug. Wipe the cap and rotor contacts with contact cleaner
Does it mis-fire, idle rough? Sput and sputter? - Check for a vacumm leak on the intake manifold. There are several spots for this to happen.
Is your air filter dirty or clogged? If yes, this can also lead to clogged jets.
Head Gasket leak? Did you overheat the engine the last time out? Lots of knocks and pings before you got it home?
I could go on but I'm only guessing as there are any number of reasons that your power could be down and more info from you is needed, but this should get you started....
If your vehicle sat for an extented amount of time it is a chance that the gas in the bowl has varnished up and clogged the jets Is the pipe getting red hot were the manifold and the pipe connect. I do not feel it is timming. Get carb cleaner while it is running spray directly into the carb. cotinue to do this for a couple of minutes. if this does not clear it up then you must take off the top of the carb and clean out the jets and take the red straw that comes with the carb cleaner and spray the carb cleaner directley into the jets to flush them out. Change you plugs Varnished gas will damage the plugs us B7ES ngk. IF you are running the stock 800 carb also take the vacume advance second barrel hose from the back of the carb and move it to the front and block off the rear port. This give more vacume to the second barrel. You can call me on my cell if you need any other help I am the Joyner owner John 602-705-6687
Was finally able to take my buggy apart a few weekends ago and did some much needed work, The first problem was the lack of power. I took apart the carb (first one i have ever done) and found a large piece of plastic like material in the carb. about 3/4" by 1/2". removed it blew all the ports and jets with carb cleaner and reinstalled it, at the same time my clutch cable and throttle cable were being stubborn and stuck on. I took cables right out of buggy and sprayed silicone lube into the cables and worked them back and forth. helped alot will reducing the resistance and also the way the cables were installed produced some sharp corners which i elminated when i remounted. Just a few little things that needed to be worked out. Next thing to be changed is a much larger rad and new carb setup. ill post updates once i get the project going.
