Well we had a great time out at Barstow & the alternator worked great, the only problem was an EVIL ROCK jumped out & slashed my front & rear tires!!! Front fixable, rear history. I do have one problem with the new alternator, it causes my chatterbox communication system to buzz so loud we can no longer talk. There should be a way to put some sort of noise suppresion on it, any ideas???

Hope I'm not over posting my problems on here! Seems Ive had a lot of ?'s lately....
I'm trying to find an alternator that will be a direct fit on my 2007 Joyner 650ss. The old one just isn't powerful enough to run all of my accessories. I was told by another rider that the stock alternators on these buggies are 35amp. I am hoping to find either a 55 or 60amp one.
55 or 60 amp should do right???
I read through 3 other threads on here about this exact issue, but none had any clear answers as to what is available and where to get them. The only info I could find and researched was an alternator from a 74 Toyota Corrolla, and according to sHUCKS AUTO SUPPLY, only come in 35 or 45 amp.
Any other help or ideas would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks.

And on another side note, how would you test to see if your external voltage regulator for your alternator is good or bad without just swapping it out for a new one?
I can't give you an answer myself, but Ghosthunter has; 55amp alt, in his signature. He has always been very helpful( and knowledgeable) when I have 650SS questions. I would send him a PM and see if he will help. Clint

I noticed that JBQuadrider has;55amp alt, in his signature. He has also helped me with SS questions. If you still need help, you could send him a PM to see what happens. Clint

Measure the voltage at the battery while the engine is off. Then start the engine and run up the RPMs using the choke. Remeasure the voltage at the battery - It should be higher unless the regulator or alternator are bad.
If the voltage does not change, disconnect the alternator and restart the buggy. Now measure the AC voltage out of the alternator. If there is no AC, you have a bad alternator. Otherwise your regulator has failed.

now all I have to do is go buy me a voltemeter...hmmm...unless work has one here I can just borrow. Alternator is brand new and so is battery, so i am hoping its just the regulator...
I am planning on buying a different alt with a higher amperage in the near future, hopefully one that is externally regulated. Just wanted to throw that out there in case it makes any difference.

I still cant get a straight answer from anyone. Everyone I ask refers me to this thread lol, but so far this thread hasnt produced any sure answers. i see a lot of possible matches but no direct match. I called an auto parts store on 2 of the ones listed in this thread (toyota) but apparently the info wasnt totally correct, atleast according to the idiots at the auto part store.
I just want a 55amp or higher alternator that will fit my buggy without heavy modification. Next step is I think I will just take my alternator to the auto parts store (SHUCKS or AUTOZONE) and show them what I have/ need and see what they have that will work.
