 Post subject: another tire question and port & polish question...

What if instead of running the stock 25-10/12 dirt tires on the sand, if I ran a pair of 22-10/12 sand zipper tires in the rear... By running smaller tires would I be gaining any more power in the sand? I know the smaller tires would be spinning faster because they are smaller, duh.... But does this create more torque, something that I really need. My 2006 650cc sand viper is completly stock and lacks the power to climb up the longer and steeper hills, which are everywhere in the dunes. My plans for the future for the 650 are adding the webber carb upgrade from fast freddies and a turbo from West Coast. Heres the second part of my question...would getting the engine ported and polished help my 2 cylinder 4 stroke. like I said earlier I really want more power and will do anything to get it, but is this upgrade worth doing, especially for $600? what kind of performance gains would I get by dong this? thanks for all the advice

Save your money up for the turbo. All of the smaller mods which may equal a few HP's here and a few there don't add up in price compared to the almost double the HP you get with the turbo. and the tires the smaller the better when your at stock HP. :wink:

I do major port and polish on the 800 heads for 200 bucks.

Cameron if you really want to port and polish bring it over to my shop in Corvallis and I'll do it for a heck of a lot less than 6 bill's. I'm only 2 hours from you .

Not to defend the six hundred dollar price, that is a bit much. I have a shop do my heads for 450.00, my cost, but that does include 3 angle valve job 28mm intake ports and extensive work on the combustion chamber, all to increase on paper 30 more cfm per runner. If my scanner didn't take a dirty diaper i would post the numbers from a dyno run at Redline Racing Engines in Ca. A EFI car with a inter-cooled T3, mild cam, and nice head work made 52.2hp and 52.3hp at the rear wheels on 2 runs. The killer car with a inter-cooled T3, big cam, huge head work, offset grind on the crank to give it more stroke and a tad bit larger piston made 77.6hp and 78.1hp at the rear wheels. Keep in mind this is still a 800cc Suzuki engine, that claims to make only 19hp at the rear wheels. This car and a few more like them will be at the SoCal bash, and maybe a traveling dyno to prove my claims.

Sorry to get off the subject, But I have to send my stuff to race shops in Ca. to get any kind of good work for my little engine along with my Trophy Truck engine that makes 850hp for 1000 miles. And i get all the numbers on paper, at most times I'm there to see the dyno run.

What I'm getting at is, before you pay the price get proof on paper. I had to learn the hard way, 3 heads later from Az. shops.

Ya everything sounds great. But after all the mods how reliable is it and how long does it servive the onslaught of use? In my case as most buggyers, we want reliability and longevity not just power. My rule of thumb is once you deviate from stock it's a hole other ball game. Tinkering, adjusting, rebuilding,modifying etc.

Shorter tires will cause the rear to drag too often. As soon as you stop, you will have a hard time going again. You will also want a tire with a bigger footprint than the 22x10-12 tire you are suggesting.

Jojano, the car that made 77hp is a daily driver, to and from work, and always on the trails up in Winslow pushing 8000 rpms all day long. He to started with a Unleashed set up and had nothing but troubles with no satisfaction from Scott. I don't want to get into a pissing match about this, but I'm here to tell all you guys, there is hidden horse power in these 800cc's and very dependable. Ive got 12 races on my car at the tune of 150ml. pur race at over 8000rpm 75% of the time and have had no engine problems, and with the work done to my engine it makes around 38hp at the rears naturally aspirated.
