Just take it slow and easy disassembling the carb. If you have a digital camera, take pictures along the way to help you get it back together. The first time I take something apart without a reference, I lay out the pieces in disassembly order so I can reverse my steps. It's best to get the thing apart and back together in one seating the first time. Once you do this a second time, it will be much more natural.

Thanks :)

Im assuming on such an old carb (i dont know last time it was cleaned and disassembled) it would be best to get new gaskets and such? (if i can find them)

Ive taen lots of carbs apart before... but this is my first "dual" carb and it looks more than 2x more complicated haha

Thanks again

Well said! The digital camera is a very useful tool.

Try posting this question over on thumpertalk.com, a site dedicated to single cylinder 4-stoke bikes (thumpers). I believe they even have a XT specific section. That Odyssey must fly with a 550 in it.
