On the left side of the carburetor is the fuel barb. On the right side is the vacuum barb for the slide.
Vacuum is generated by the intake elbow between the carburetor and engine - You should see a barb on the elbow. If you have a vacuum operated fuel petcock, there will be a tee fitting off this vacuum line. The vacuum line would go to the lower petcock barb, while the upper barb goes to the fuel line. The other end of the vacuum tee goes to the carburetor slide.
