Pretty sure it was a MRP carb. So I am ok having that line tied off on the manifold if I have a manual fuel shut off?

I would do a comp test 1st to see if there any change in the comp after the valves are done.

Anyone have a video on how to do a comp test? Never done one before. What part do I need to buy inorder to do that test? What should the test read?

only thing you need is the tester, screw in in the spark plug hole and spin the engine over 3-4 times. it should be around 140-170

Comp test 140. Went to adjust the valves and they were good where they were. ljkart and I took it for a ride. Dog on top end and at take off. Backfire wasn't there that day. =D> Found a bad brake switch and i just ordered that. Talked with BIGE on the phone and he suggested a new set up. Going to order a new sprocket/chain, change the springs, and change to 14g rollers from the 15g sliders I have in now.

No problems starting either. The thing is possesed!!!  Might be something electrical with the starting fluke last week. Going to tear all of that appart and check the connections I haven't already soldered.

I/ we think most of my problem is that it is a two speed. Low gear takes off like a champ and plenty of power. High gear is a dog at take off and at high end (for some reason). 34 mph on a flat surface, riding by myself (195 lbs), no wind.

Trying to get a more well rounded buggy in high gear. Low gear doesn't do me much good around here. We do live miles from the flat lands of IL! Just kidding IL guys.

i know you said the valve timing was good, but check it again. A long with the ignition timing. That would explain the back firing and the poor performance.

How do you check the ignition timing? I checked the valves twice. Both cold and warm motor.
