Thanks again Chuck That is cool that your Dad is building an outdoor train set, I think that is called G Scale trains. You should post some pics if it somewhere when he is done, I would be interested in seeing the layout. I will keep him in mind if I go to sell. They are by no means high wnd train equipment but I have quile a bit of cars, buildings etc. Last night I discovered that when I sit in the buggy the back axles weren't level. So I made new rear shock mounts and welded them below the existing ones. Then I fabbed up a bar to go from to tie the old mounts together and also to use as a back support for the fuel tank. I am not sure of the position of the fuel tank but I don't have much of a choice of where to put it. There is room under the tank to install some kind of air filter on the carb.

Short Circut, Your buggy is looking great. I struggled with fuel tank location to. I still don't know the best location. If you turn over and the tank leaks where does the fuel go ?Down the back of your neck, onto a hot engine? Where is a fuel tank mounted on ATV or motorcycle? Where is the fuel tanks mounted on racing karts? I'm still working on this. Keep up the good work and the pictures coming. pmac
They just dug the pond, it's like 15x20. He's looking for some steel to make an expansion bridge. We'll landscape it and all that. I'll get some pics of the prodject I'm sure.
If you had a fuel pump you could put the tank any where. If you wanted to save space you could weld a 90 into the fill hole. Move the petcock to the bottom of the thin part. Then stand it on it's side. Alot work for a little space but cool just the same

I tried the tank in different locations but something always seemed to get in the way, other than mounting it on the floor in between my legs, which means buying a different tank. That's a good idea Chuck. I never thought of reworking that tank. But I did think about a small upright fuel cell on the left side of the buggy but I still have to run the chain and jackshaft assembly which leaves me no room to slide a tank down in there, so I went up higher where the tank is mounted now. I can't get it down any further or I won't be able to get an air cleaner on the carb. Plus if the engine has to come out I can take the tank off, unbolt the crossbrace and pull the motor out the top.
I just want to thank you folks for the compliments, suggestions and hits (2443 views so far) on this thread. It keeps me motivated when I am sitting in the garage looking at the buggy wondering how the devilville am I going to do that?!?!?!?!?

Why not just build a tank to fit the space? I made a secondary tank for the Yerf, mirror image of the stock tank. Neck and cap was about $10-$15, weld bung for the outlet was about $5.You could reuse the cap oand outlet from the ATC if so inclined. I mounted a splitter valve between the seats to switch between the two tanks to act like sort of a reserve tank. The left one in this pic, sorry about the pic size.

That looks real good Richard. Once again another good suggestion to ponder over I tackled the wiring this weekend. Back at the engine I connected all the wires and didn't have to lengthen any but all the ones that go up to the dash, light switch and starter button had to be lengthened by 3 feet, a total of ten wires. Kind of a monatonous task but I muddled my way through it. There are a couple of connections up by the dash that are not the same as the wiring diagram I have. I think I have them figured out. The guy I got the front tires from works on these things for a living and was very interested in this so when the time comes he is going to help me figure out if I have the wiring correct there
