LOL I was wondering who would be the first to question my avatar
I am experimenting but not with cardboard. After doing some more of the electrical in the garage this morning I wanted to see what the buggy looked like with a body on it. So I dug out an old horse blanket my wife had, draped it over the buggy, started cutting and that is what I ended up with. So that will be a template for my body. Trying to figure out what to make the body our of, I came up with another idea. I know Pmac made his panels out of plastic and they drooped on him, I am not a bodyman so aluminum or steel sheeting is out of the question, so why not make a body out of vinyl or canvas cloth and use snaps to secure it to the frame? Someone makes cloth or vinyl tops for boats and I have seen them on dune buggy roofs. I think they are called Bimimi roofs????? Why not a Bimimi body?? My wife has a good sewing machine that will sew vinyl or canvas. I ran the idea by her and she is willing to teach me how to use it.
It will probly rip if you ride like me. BigE used some plastic that comes in a roll on his buggy. Comes in diff colors and he said works well. I seen tha panels when you posted in another thread I just did'nt want to hijack that thread.
I just joined the site saw this build and loved it. Heres a thought on making a body fiber glass. Use duct tape to cover the area you want to make a body panel for buy some fiber glass sheeting cover over it ruff trim it to fit then spread the resson let dry pull it off finish trimming sand prime and paint. If its not perfect who cares it will be broken soon anyway make another.

I too thought about it ripping too on tree branches and stuff. The vinyl I got for my seat on the golf cart was pretty durable, it got wrenches and stuff drug across it and never ripped. That is what I was going to try to make the body out of. Just something different to try as I couldn't find any buggies with a body made from vinyl. Maybe there is a reason for that lol Sinister I am having loads of fun building this buggy(most of the time ) and thanks for the suggestion on how to do a fiberglass body. One never knows................

I love old GM products Not to get too far off topic (I haven't done much to the buggy this week anyways) this was our ride for 10 years. 1972 Pontiac Lemans 300 Sport Convertible. We did a frame off resto and I did all the work myself except the finish bodywork and paint. The 70 Chevelle beside it is my Dad's ride and he still has this car and will probably never get rid of it.
