Off-Road Trails The off-road vehicle (ORV) riding area is approximately 2,000 acres. It has been set aside for motorcycles, all terrain vehicles (ATVs), dune buggies and four-wheel drive vehicles. There are about 800 acres of “sand-flats,” a sand-like substance of crushed limestone. The remainder of the area is wooded hillsides that are steep in some areas. A shallow creek and other water areas are also present.
The ORV staging area is located north of the park office and has three small shelters, vault toilets, water, a change house, picnic tables and barbecue grills. Pim Lake and beach are adjacent to this area.
A $3 daily fee is required for each off road vehicle. The off-road riding area is open during the following times:
7 a.m. - 5 p.m. daily from October through March and 7 a.m. - 8 p.m. daily from April through September.
As far as other neceseties go ( Food, suplies). Farmington, MO is about a 5-10 minute drive from St. Joes. There they have a bunch of places to eat, a Super-Walmart, and a Loews right across the street. There is also a powersports dealer, that had an intake manifold for me when mine cracked.

Motorized vehicles must be equipped with functioning brakes and muffler, with noise limit not to exceed 86dBA. Motorcycles and all-terrain vehicles (ATVs) must be equipped with a spark arrestor.
Dune buggies and four-wheel drive vehicles are permitted only in the tailings area, not on the wooded trails.
Chris, Anyone have any trouble w/ either of these rules last year? I would think that a lot of the buggies would be over 86dba. I'm assuming that the buggies and UTV's have a full run of the park and are NOT classified as dune buggies?
Last years videos looked great, be nice to make the trip this year. Have RZR, will travel, lol!

No one had any problems that I know of. When we got our permits we had them mark the riding permits as an atv. No one checked for the sound level of the buggys. They did however make sure people were quiet when the time came.
Everyone at the park was really nice on one occasion the park ranger came by our camp at night and let us know that there was a storm comming in, so we could cover up our stuff.

No problems whatsoever with any of the buggies in regards to any of the requirements. Adam has or had a gutted muffler and no one said a word.
I would also like to point out that there were no issues with 4x4's or any other atv's or motorcycles.
The rangers had a checkpoint setup on Saturday morning. They were checking permits... No big deal, no hassles at all. They just looked at the paperwork, verified the dates, and let us go on our way.

That's the other thing that is nice about this location. The town of Farmington is only a few miles away and provides hotels, restaurants, hardware stores, etc.. As Adam mentioned there's even a powersports store nearby.
We've contemplated getting a hotel room, however the accommodations at the park are very nice.
