The original carb works still. However, when I first start the Joyner, I have to pull the air filter off, put my hand over the carb and turn the key. This usually pulls excess gas in but the Joyner will fire up and run. Once the Joyner is warmed up... no issues, I can start with just turning the key.

If I wait a while and things cool down, I have to pull the air filter back off and repeat.

Been doing this all last season, but now want to purchase a new carb or purchase an upgraded carb and have the original one for a spare or to "clean" up with a rebuild kit.

Go on ebay and they have a selection... but not so sure of the quality,
Go to dealer on this website and they have a selection as well...

Would the 30mm Pumper Performance Carburetor with the wiring harness
(This CVK 30mm carburetor features an automatic choke and uses Keihin main jets. Carburetor comes preinstalled with a 130 main jet.)
25.00 more than stock size

OR

Would the 32mm Pumper Performance Carburetor with the wiring harness
(This CVK 32mm carburetor features an automatic choke and uses Keihin main jets. Carburetor usually comes with a 130 main jet and 39 pilot jet installed.) roughly 60.00 more.

Then pickup another Uni filter setup as well.

Which would be a better choice... or just get the stock one.

thanks

Would rather support and buy from a dealer on this site.

thanks

I have a 30mm pumper that I got off Amazon for $73. It was advertised as a 32mm, but them lying suckers tricked me! Anyway, going to run it anyway, but haven't yet. It does take a slightly smaller UNI filter, too, so some added expense there. I ran a 32mm pumper on my previous Hammerhead, but I don't know that I'd pay $200 for another one. DIdn't think it was that much of an improvement.

Are you sure you need a carb? When's the last time you adjusted your valves? That's always helped my start issues. Is the electric choke working?

I have never adjusted the valves... sounds like that would be the next thing I try. Looks like I might save a few dollars by asking questions,

"mine did the same thing and that was the main problem"

the carb was the main problem and you are going to adjust your valves too
or
dont spend any money on the carb and see if adjusting the valves fixes my issue.

^^ this ^^

Get the piston to TDC. You can use the method in the manual, or what I do is take the spark plug out, put a straw or screwdriver in the cylinder then rotate the variator until the piston is at the top of its stroke. Loosen the external valve adjusters and make sure they move freely, otherwise you are on the exhaust cycle, and will need to rotate the engine one more time. Then follow the instructions below about external adjusters. Pretty simple.

If you run into a snag maybe you can get a local guy to give you a hand.
