Hello, this is my first post, but since finding the site I've been reading and learning from everyone here and love the forum. I recently bought this cart for my kids, but have discovered I have just as much fun with it, but being a lot heavier than them I have been bitten with the "hop up" bug. I am hoping that someone can ID this cart, and specifically the engine model that I can start doing some mods without buying the wrong stuff. I'd like to replace the carb, exhaust, weights, blah blah blah. You get it. There is a sticker on the instrument pod that says GSMOON, but the title says it's a Newstar GK150 III. Of course, the original owner had no manual so I don't even know what weight oils are needed for the engine, tranny, etc. If anyone can ID this, is there a manual that can be downloaded somewhere? I am hoping the engine is the GY6, can anyone help out?
Well I could'nt find it under either names. I did find it under just gk150. You got what looks to be a gy6 with IRS rear If this is the case then your good. Most of the parts should fit.
If you want a carb I would do a 30mm slide or pumper carb. Do you want more top end or low end? Most want low. 10g sliders, blue main spring, uni filter, redneck intake.
Then you still got clutch's, vari's, coil, cdi, exhaust, and on and on. You can do 100-1000 in a gy6. Just depends on the rider and what they want to do

Thanks for the reply Chuck. While I really wouldn't mind an increase in speed, my main goal I guess is more low end for hills and the like. In your (estimable) opinion, what would the best order of upgrades be to do progressively that I can get the most bang for the buck without having to re-replace a previous upgrade? Do you know what iols the GY6 and tranny require?
The best bang for the buck would be 10g sliders, main spring, uni, jets. Then open up the exhaust as Pud has done. For throtle responce a slide or pump carb is tops.
Every thing I mentioned should be around 100 except the carb. The carb will be about 100 it's self. I got a carb set up from BPNW that works awsome. It's a high rise intake, elbow, and 30mmslide carb for 200. I really like the longer bolts that come with it

OK, I looked around over at bpnw and was looking at the performance packages and clutch stuff. I dont see a blue main spring there, perhaps I'll phone them tomorrow to chat before I do any ordering. What's the difference between the slider and pumper carbs? Is that the automatic choke vs. not? In that case a separate choke cable is requried? Did you have your head ported? I searched Pud's posts and eventually found the drill out mod for the exhaust, not sure if I'd do that or just pick a new one up, the exisitng pipe is kinda trashed so it might behoove me to just jump in with both feet.

welcome to buggynews. that is a gsmoon, the engine is a 150, BUT they have some different parts than others. I think the cvt parts are the same , but not positive on that one.
can you post a picture of the cv cover? you might have to pull it off and measure the rollers to see what size they are and how many, I think the belt is also a different size than most 150's.
if they are the same then like Chuck was saying, 10 gram sliders or rollers, white or red main spring, rejet will really wake it up. oil is 10w40, gear box lube is 75w90

For what they're worth, here are some pics of the cover - it's hard to get a camera in through there!. I will try to pop the cover off later today and see what's inside. Thanks for the fluid tip, I really wanted to change them both but didn't want to booger anything up. Like I'd mentioned, I don't mind dropping a few $ to see what can be dont to mod this thing, I just don't want to throw it away on wrong parts.
Sorry man the blue is in my 250. I think I got red in the 150. Eric, the guy posted above can take good care of you if the parts are the same. A new exhaust is way better, just not in some guy's budget. The pic I was looking at, the cvt looked like mine. Yours does not. Very close but I'm not sure.

Ok, after reading (and reading and reading) it stikes me that the pumper carb would be more responsive - I assume it would also require 12v to be fed to the carb to run the pump? And if I do ho with the larger size, how detrimental is it not to port the intake?
