The tranny does only hold a few ounces. I think my original chinese lube looked dark and "shiny" somehow--but no visible bits. Maybe they use a lube with 'moly' which i think looks like powdered metal or graphite suspended in the heavy oil.
If the engine revs up with the belt mounted then everything including the variator, clutch and tranny is spinning. Is the small sprocket also spinning? Maybe your reverse rear end'y went CRUNCH...

I didn't look to see if the sprocket was spinning. Had the exhaust off of it and didn't want to make the neighbors to mad at me. I'm one of the unfortunates that doesn't have a reverse. I'm going to get some 90 wt oil tommorrow and put it back together and try it out myself.

Take the chain off the axle and raise the rear of the buggy and see if the wheels well spin free without the chain on the sproket. You might have axle bearings that have locked up on the buggy. Or the internal gears ( the ones behind the clutch) might be striped or something.
I would check the axle bearings first. Keep us posted.

The wheels roll fine with the chain off. I guess I'm down to tearing into the transmission and checking that now. I'm going to put it back together tomorrow just to see for myself what's going on first before I start taking everything apart.

got it all back together, started it up . The darn thing wanted to just take off with out giving it any gas. Turned it off and tried to push it and you could feel the belt turning and trying to turn the engine.
I'm now guessing that it's something with the clutch is staying engaged? Any ideas on what I should be looking for when I take the clutch apart?

Yes.. I agree. It does sound like the clutch is engaging when it shouldn't be. Something is likely wrong there. If that's the case the bell will move with any belt movement. Normally the clutch bell runs freely until the force of the spinning clutch causes the friction pads to make contact with tthe bell and drive it.
Something is either jammed in there or it is a seriously broken clutch unit. Luckily they aren't too expensive... open that baby up and see what it's doing.
If you have a camera take pictures of what you find.

will do with the pic's.
If the clutch nut is broken. then I guess I need to be careful when taking off the bell housing nut? So the clutch spring doesn't fly off and hit something important
