Hey everybody,
i want to build a go-cart with a small budget. I'm looking for something for off-road. Something with a roll-bar cage, double seater, knoby tires and a 250cc engine with a good amount of torque. I have a welder, grinder (ect) to build the go-cart. All i need is some tips on building it and a range of how much it will cost. Thanks for the help.

Welcome to buggynews!

Do you have an idea of what it will look like, what kind of suspension you will be using, single seater or double? Do you have any plans your going to follow?

I have something like this on my mind: http://www.teamdazon.com/product_raidermax250double.htm

I was thinking about taking suspension off a quad like a Sportrax 400.
I don't currently have any plans.

Maybe get a Cad program and give us some ideas then we will build on that.

I would start off buy buying a set of plans. In the long run the $50 bucks spend on plans will save you money and you will end up with a good running buggy on the first attempt.

I am suilding the SII from ubuiltplans.org for example. There are quite a few plans available most of which are pretty good.
I chose the SII because it was a 2 seater and since I my goal is ATV trails it is a perfect size.

If you are looking at building your own equivalent to a twister hammerhead or blade you will realistically spend 4-5 thousand to build it if you use mostly new parts and do everything right.
For that price however you can have a higher quality machine with far more power. If you want to stick with a 250cc and use some used parts you could probably get it done around 3k.
