This clever way to make standoffs is found on my Ridge Runner. I think it's cool so I'll share it with everyone. All it takes is a short piece of tubing and a wire tie. Costs nearly nothing. The steps are described in the picture comments.

Attachments:
File comment: Step 1: Use a tie longer than needed and pass it through a short piece of tubing.

File comment: Step 2: Loop the tie around whatever you wish to secure and pass the tie back through the tubing.

File comment: Step 3: Loop the end of the tie around the object you want to secure TO and then pull the end through the tie clamp.

File comment: Step 4: Wiggle the tie & tubing until you're satisfied it's positioned correctly. Pull the tie end tight & cut off excess.

Excellent! I knew I kept that length of tubing around for something other than to trip over.

Excellant Tip!
Little things like this really help solve the detail problems and in the end make for a better buggy!

Thanks guys.
When I first saw that little trick I knew it needed to be shared. It doesn't mark the paint, cut in to the wires, loosen, cost anything, require drilling or rusty screws, etc etc. Also doesn't collect mud like strapping right to the surface does. The Ridge Runner is built by aircraft guys so they probably have a couple tricks we haven't seen before.
