Maybe this will help all the Joyner owners out, after hours and hours of research I found that the 2007 and older Chery engines are a clone of the ford's Britian CVH (escort) motor such as the 1.1, 1.3, 1.6 and 2.0. The great thing is that even though it was a clone of the Britian Ford CVH motor, they used 90% of the same parts as Ford U.S. CVH motor. The trannys are a VW model gear boxes with Ford bell housing. Least that is what mine is. Like the 650, 800 & 1100 are from a 1.1 to 1.3L VW golf. I have the 2006 1600 Joyner and my tranny is from a 97 VW Jetta. Now I'm not saying everything will bolt right up on the 650, 800 and 1100's you'd have to check that out yourself. But I know a friend that has a 800 Roketa and replaced transmission parts with a 1.3L VW golf. Another friend with a 2007 Joyner 1100 used gears and several other parts from a 1.3L Golf tranny. I have a 97 Jetta tranny that matches perfect to my 1600. I'm currently running a VW Jetta starter on my 1600. I bought several ford escort parts as replacement parts that fit perfect.

Just do some research or pull photos of the VW 1.3L tranny and you can compare what it looks like to what you have. Do the same on the engines. Google photo of the 1.1 or 1.3 and see if they don't look real close to what you have.

Hope this helps some of you!

This could be a hugely helpful post so I split it out of the Joyner Alert topic and made it a sticky here.

Here is something I done to up the HP and performance of my Joyner 1600. I race my 1600 off road and I've tried all kinds of different thing to get it to perform better. Some worked and some didn't. Here is one that is worth the time.

Throttle Body - Ported my throttle body, opened it up as much as I could. About 6mm on the inlet and 12mm on the outlet.

Intake Manifold - Ported- port matched the intake to the throttle body after I ported the throttle body. Ported the mainfold to the gasket.

These things are starving for air, all the EPA restrictions have them choked up. Just the about porting really woke my 1600 up. All I could get out of it prior to the porting was about 5500 RPM, NOW it hits the rev limiter at 7200 RRM and really pulls hard all the way through.

This will work on TB or Carb set-up.

Just remember though....more air in more air out. I cut my exhaust pipe off about 1 1/2 feet off the exhaust manifold and put on a Super trap tip only. I can't tell you how much it woke my 1600 up.

Just take your time when doing the porting, I'm no ace car guy and I don't have a shop full of tools. Everything I used to port the TB and Intake I bought at Harbor Freight. A electric hand drill and a dremel is all I used.

Great work Rusty!!

Your porting is what Ghosthunter did with his 650 and his screams. Im sure yours does too!! The moderators should consider to make a sticky of all the info gathered with the VW Jetta findings!

Gonna tear my motor down ASAP and get to my mods!!

Research into Chery previously showed it was an Isuzu/Suzuki based engine. Considering the fact the the ECU is using GM/Opel protocols this makes more sense than a connection to Ford. Suzuki has had joint ventures with VW and Subaru, so the transmission parts may have some commonality.

Chery has been accused of intellectual property theft of Daewoo designs for its Chery QQ 800cc mini car (they are not permitted to sell in the US due to this) and GM is also somehow involved with Daewoo. Below are some interesting Wiki links to dig into engine origins further.

The 1000cc is definatly a suzuki copy. I have used suzuki parts to rebuild the bottom end of one. It seems that the different sizes are copies of different manufacturers. Maybe the 1600 is a vw copy. But not the 1000.

Taken from the 1600 Joyner Owners manual.

CAC480 series vehicle gasoline engines, which are the products introduced from Ford (Britain) corporation CVH production line, are made by Anhui Chery automobile Corp. Products are made up of carburetor type, single-point electric control fuel injection type and electric control fuel injection type, which may meet the requirements for different performance and emission.

Ford does not make the CVH engine any longer so I'm sure the rights were sold to Chery. The engine was produced in many different capacities from 1.1 to 1.9 litres, the smaller versions being exclusively for the European market. The CVH engine was used all U.S Escorts from 1983 to 2000.

1980-1986 Ford Escort Mk.3 (Europe): 1.1 L, 1.3 L, 1.6 L
1986-1990 Ford Escort Mk3.5 (Europe): 1.4 L, 1.6 L
1990-1998 Ford Escort Mk.4 (Europe): 1.4 L, 1.6 L (1.6 L replaced by Zetec in '92)
1983-1989 Ford Fiesta Mk.2: 1.3 L, 1.4 L, 1.6 L (1.4 L replaced 1.3 L for '86 model
1989-1992 Ford Fiesta Mk.3: 1.4 L, 1.6 L (replaced by Zetec '93 model year onward)
1988-1993 Ford Sierra: 1.6 L, 1.8 L (Replaced Pinto from '89 model year onward)
1981-1985 Ford Escort (US) 1.6 L and 1.9 L
1981-1985 Mercury Lynx (US) 1.9 L
1981-1985 Mercury LN7 (US) 1.9 L
1982-1993 Morgan 4/4 1.6 L

Note that the 1.1 L version was only offered in Continental Europe, 1.1 L Escort Mk.3's for the United Kingdom used the 1117cc Kent engine

I've along with a friend who has a 1100 has replaced many parts on our engine with Escort parts that bolted right up. The 800 may be a suzuki I have not looked into it very much.

Here is a photo of a 1997 VW Jetta Tranny.

This came from the Joyner Forum:

Quote:
...the 2002 terminator T2 I am working on has had issues with breaking the clutch disc, leaking input shaft seal and output shaft seal leaks.
1st the transmission which is in this unit, is one which was an oem piece in the VW Scirocco of 1988 or so vinatge. The transmission can be identified by it's final drive flanges which is where the axle shaft inner CV joints bolt to. So if your looking for seals. Try looking for the final drive seal kit to a 88 VW sciracco it can be viewed on line at mulitple auto parts stores on line cataloging and should show you what I'm talking about comes with a seal and disc as well as a new final drive flange retention clip...

so i guess the question is which clutch/flywheel/pressure plate does this Chery/Ford/Volkswagen bastard step child use?

or like everything else it uses a clutch you can only get from 2 places?

I don't think the Roketa and BMS buggies use DOHC Chery engines. They use Suzuki derivatives.

ther Chery 1100 cc engines is actually a Sound and proven European only 1986 Ford 1.1 L Escort Engine and parts are easy to come by. borossi / Joyner 1100 also uses this engine.

I know this is an old thread but can anyone tell me what the 800cc would be classified as, meaning 0.8L ,1.1L or what? This is all new to me and I'm sure most of you are more familiar this type of thing. I tring to find out what I might can cross over on this buggy.

I just bought a 07 Joyner 1600cc Sand Viper and noticed the transmission bracket(not the mount) was broken. It contains some type of shift rod/linkage that I'm not sure what it is. I am in Afghaniastan and only have pics to go by.
