there are many styles and options but i would like to find out which one performs the best. I do alot of hill climbs so i need the cvt to stay in low end a little longer thru engine rpm... I got a dr pulley on my helix 150 10gram sliders and red main spring 1500 arm springs and the vented clutch bell that I purchased from BPNW thanks Mike...but this is a lighter kart than the KPX by a good 100lbs... the KPXs are stock final gearing sprocket seams to be the right gearing but the clutch and variator both need work i know.. I want to upgrade them ...is the HIT clutch worth the extra $$ what about the MRP and KOSO ..teflon coated variator?.. I have heard of some issues with the dr pulley . So I know there are alot of people running different models just looking for to set this kart up the best i can get. I understand how to set up the clutch and variator just want the best parts to put in it that will perform the best and will not wear out like stock

I would stay away from Dr. Pulley for now. Eric has told me that a new shipment has come in that are re-designed for our heavy weight buggies so hopefully they will do better. But right now I would go in this order: Mollosi, Koso, MRP. I have a MRP racing clutch and variator in the 150 and have no complaints. I tore down the cvt in littlerock's 150 last weekend due to belts breaking. Found rollers were shot. Think I'm going to replace them with 12gr. sliders. But the clutch pads showed very little wear after 1 1/2 of use. The bell is slightly blue, but I'm going to scuff it up and re-install it.

the koso clutch I sell is adjustable similar to the dr pulley. it uses springs and weights. I also have a non adjustable koso that you just change the arm springs on.

other than dr pulley the best clutches are koso, mrp, prodigy ( when available).
the koso adjustable clutch is cheaper than the dr pulley also. what size axle sprocket is on it?

You probly wont be able to find one but I like my prodigy. I would probly go koso over mrp because I dont like mrp. The DrP has been breaking. So now there gonna loose money like we told them they would. KidnMe have gotten some good reviews on the shorty but it's still to soon for me to jump on that. I need to see how the hold up long turn

Hasn't anyone been reading what we are doing to improve the buggy mods and pricing available?
Don't forget the amazing Shorty clutch kit or our DR2 Variator!
We gurarantee our stuff and shaving 2 seconds off your 300' uphill run plus adding 2mph on the top end, is impressive imho.
Not only that but the shorty is almost half the cost of the malossi or DRPully!

Whats the gurarante you offer? I just asume theres never one after 30 days. And even then it's not expressed but I would like to think a good dealer would at least give you that. As I've stated you got some great results but with a name like DrP falling apart I like to see some time on a product thats being used alot

Hey guys-

From everything I've read lately on the Dr Pulley clutches, people are really piling on about them "breaking".

I've followed most of the threads dealing with this, and had a customer whose clutch came apart as well. But I want to get some facts about the situation out there, too.

a) As far as I can find, the only clutches that had problems were 250cc clutches. I haven't seen a 150cc one have a problem. (Someone please chime in if they have)

b) ALL of the Dr Pulley clutches for the 250cc up until the ones that are currently available were designed for scooters! We were able to use them on our buggies, but weren't told how to properly tune them with the springs for the much heavier vehicles and completely different riding style we do. I believe this contributed significantly to the failures that occurred.

c) MRP and Dr Pulley have been in a finger pointing match as to who is responsible for any defective products and this has lead to VERY unacceptable delays in getting repairs/replacements/warranty parts. It certainly doesn't help with mindshare and brand image.

d) The currently available Dr Pulley clutches from me and the other dealers that carry them *should* all be the newest version, with redesigned clutch arms and built for our buggies. They even come with extra sets of springs and I've been getting VERY good feedback about them.

e) In terms of performance, Dr Pulley and Malossi are way out ahead of the others, followed by the Short and Koso Delta clutches, then the MRP and other no name brands. When properly set up with the right clutch springs for your riding style, the Dr P clutch does some amazing things.

f) The Dr Pulley clutch is the most expensive. You do get performance on par with that expense. It's just really unfortunate that something went wrong in their 2nd generation products where there were a dozen or so clutch failures and the ball was dropped by the manufacturer and wholesaler in making things right. Dr Pulley bears much responsibility in not responding to complaints about their brand in the few that have had problems - out of THOUSANDS of clutches! (This is NOT to say that a clutch can't be damaged/broken through clear user error and misuse!) The key issue is that when someone buys a product for so much money and then it does fail early (presumably through no fault of the consumer), it tends to make people a little upset when they can't get support. This leads to...

g) I've seen Dr Pulley getting a lot better about supporting those who had problems with those older generation clutches. It's my understanding that MRP has received some warranty parts, and Dr Pulley has also worked directly with some customers in getting theirs fixed or replaced. Unfortunately those stories never made it to the boards, so people are left with the impression that everyone who had a problem was left hanging in the wind which is not true.

Sorry for the long post, but if you guys are looking for a true and honest appraisal of what is best in a clutch, letter 'e' above is where it's at.

Dr Pulley has a new line of awesome clutches out made exactly for our buggies, with zero problems in them so far. They're more responsive than in the past, and when Geek gets those pics of his clutch I asked for, I'll be sending those to Dr Pulley to see what they can do for him.

-Mike

I do not know much about 250+ mods, but when I had my Carter DX150 I went thru several clutches. In my experience, the Koso clutch grabbed with far more superior take off than any other Ive seen. Based on that I would go Koso every time. It was really impressive in a 150. I would assume they applied this to their larger cc models.
At a cheaper price, for me it is a no brainer.

Well, I guess I will throw my 2 cents out here with all the rest. I hear all this beating down on DR.Pulley, I have run the Hit clutch for over a year now and never had an issue. As a matter of fact, alot of the members have seen my buggy perform and in my opinion, when a transmission blows apart before the clutch, thats a good clutch.

Well, 30 days is appropriate I think but would take each case individually.

We guarantee that it will do exactly what we say it will or we will take it back.
If the pads fall off or something like that in a reasonable amount of time, we will replace it for free. We weren't getting that kind of offer from anyone. Its why we gave away so many of them when we first came out with it, to show our honesty and to get "real" results from "real" people (Us dealers aren't real people any more and I understand that). Remember, we are developing these parts for our own buggies first before we ever sell any of them.
We also developed a rebuild kit for the shorty that will save even more money!
This is what the public told us they wanted and we followed through.

It seems to me that you stand to lose so much less with our parts than some others and for less than half the price and, everything we offer with it, we just wanted to be mentioned as an alternative, or atleast an "also ran", thats all.
