I was talking with Funnyman about my Sunl 250 hesitating from a stop at St. Joe. He said it sounded like I need CVT work. He also mentioned the clutch engages to fast almost as soon as you step on the gas. The clutch feels good while I’m riding so I think its good but I need to take it apart to see how much pad it has left.

I’m looking into 19g rollers but I’m lost when it comes to the main clutch spring. I understand its function just not sure on which spring to get.

Do I need new clutch arm springs? If my thinking is correct the 19g sliders will allow the rmp’s to come up before the clutch arms open. So I don’t need new springs. Please correct me if I’m wrong.

I’m looking for a good compromise between hill climbing, trails, and speed an all-around performing buggy.

By the way the Sunl 250 is stock.

19g sliders?
Main clutch spring blue, red, white?
Clutch arm springs?

Thanks
JD

19grams wouldnt do much better than stock which is around 22-24. I would go with a red main spring, 17 gram sliders or 15 gram rollers, and a set of clutch arm springs.

the red main will delay the upshift and make it down shift quicker, the 17 gram sliders will give you some low end while help retaning top end, the clutch arm springs will raise the rpm inwhich the clutch full engages.

Go with 17g sliders and a red Malossi torque spring if you want low end without losing the top speed. BigE sells a kit for real low end power, but your speed will suffer.

I went with the exact same setup in my Coolster Dbl CN250. I have 17 gram sliders and red spring.

BIGE can you give me any suggestions for the clutch arm spring?

they come in a pack of 9, white is soft, yellow mediumn, and red is stiffest.
the white ones are just a bit over stock. the yellow ones will raise the engaement rpm to about 2800, the reds about 3400.

they delay the complete engagement until a certain rpm is met, the buggy will still move at lower rpm but the lock up of the clutch will be delayed.

it gives the engine time to get up in the power ban

I found this about the red spring. Will the 17g sliders have any trouble overcoming the spring’s tension?

250cc Clutch Main Spring - Red

Note: Using lower weight rollers (15-17g) with this spring can affect your top speed due to the rollers not being heavy enough to fully overcome the spring's tension.

I wasn't sure if the 17g sliders were going to be sufficient enough for the red Malossi spring, but mine is running fine and able to get to high ratios.

I have not heard that. I do know that the sliders will move further in the variator and help retain top speed. the main spring red, blue, white or red will change the opening and closeing rate of the clutch pulley not the variator

This was a discussion with Jackster and he made a spreadsheet to compute spring and roller interaction. If you use the lightest rollers with the heaviest spring, the roller force will not be sufficient enough to overcome the spring force resulting in poor top speed.
