Okay guys I'm going for it. Still haven't figured out how I'm going to make the wheels turn..yet. I have 2 set of plans, neither with a rear I'm sold on. To use all mfg 250cc part would easily cost over 1 grand. So I set my budget at $500. I'm currently at the half way point. Not shown (hubs).

You using heims or bushings? You gonna use pillows for mounting that shaft? What are your thoughts so far? Looks like your going the way of Jabo. I thought about the same thing if thats the case.

The shaft is the problem. Its really short, and I need a brake disk. I'm wondering if I can get 1" keyed yokes that would fit the polaris' u-joints, or if the yokes could be bored to a 1" key way. That would put this project on the fast track.
I was planning on using bushing, I never thought about heims, so now I have options. I really wanted go cart cv, but there aren't any used cvs on ebay. I know there are only a couple of spline ct and axle dimensions, but who can pony up the money for new parts to find out which ones interchange.

Bushings are fine if geometry is spot on. If not then heims would give you the play you need. Can you run out board brakes? Not sure if your building your hubs or using off the shelf ones. Seeing as how you still need to add the bearings and spindles to the trailing arms, you may be able to add one brake to each side.
Forgive me if I have a few random post here. I'm doing some looking and thinking on this issue so I'll post as things come into my head
Do you still have the old swing arm? If so could you use the old axle? If you cut it to the size you need you can weld the splined ends to it. Then usethe bearings to mount it.

I was thinking the same thing. pillow block bearing would be the esy way. I have a center section from a hammerhead 250, a joyner 250 sprocket and a honda sprocket. I have to go up there this morning and I will look and see about mounting the joyner sprocket on the hh center section. that would give you just about what you need, I can make you a good deal on it because I dont know how long it will be before someone needs one

ChuckO, yeah I want to do the pillow blocks. The pics you posted is what I would like to do, but I need male ends added to the center axle. I wonder if I could get some of those collars, cut the axle, then weld the male end to the collars, and put the collars on the appropriate center axle. What type of welder would be needed to create the bond strength I would need?
I guess I could weld square tube on the trailing arms and use the heims. How big would they have to be to support the rear.
The center carrier you see in the photo, Idid not but it ($15) to drive the axles. I bought it hoping the axle would fit the u-joint splines, I order another for $13 should be here by next weekend.
I lucked out (maybe) finding hubs that would fit the Polaris front axles, but, their not setup for brake disks. Still I only paid $36 total for the axles, so if they are more trouble than their worth, they are for SALE.
Bige I tried looking on Hammerhead's site to price their rear setup, but couldn't find prices. Let me know what you find out, with those parts.
Well I goning to go wok on my trailing arms, now. If I had plans for some arms I could be finished by now. Making a modified version of something is extremely time consuming. So much so, I started thinking dirty diaper I could have cut most all the frame pieces for the Shredder II buggy. That reminds me ChuckO, if you ever want to make your Hammerhead long travel like the other member. The shredder II plans build the nose section seperate, much like that golf cart clip (11-12" travel). Sorry about how this post jumps around, but that how my mind is right now. Keep the ideas and info coming. Thanks
Greg

I know those parts can be fabed up. Those pics are what Doug Heim done for a client so I know they can be had. As far as tha heim size I'll look into it. You dont need square stock, you can get the bungs for the heims at the same time and just weld the bung in. From what I've read most of the fab guys are using wire feed migs without gas. Alot use gas as well but thats just what I've read. Could you not weld the brackets for out board brakes on the polaris hubs? I would love to do the hh but the 180r is my project for now. Besides the rear of the hh still might be on the 180r at some point
