Great post Stu, It makes me think there may be a bit more HP to get out of our buggies. I know my 150cc is still just a 150cc engine, but a better carb would have to make a difference I would think.
I wonder if this type of thing is what Barons is looking at with his secret Bad Boy Buggy Carb?

this and an accelerator pump are likely what barron is doing, in fact after I try it if the difference is big enough I may just offer them, or the kit as well

OK, so this is not for the faint at heart and I take no responsibility. I am soon bringing on a new dealer that has been doing some wild mods to these karts, in fact he modified 6 karts for a race in germany His standard modified kart is offering wild torque nearly spinning tires at take off and top speed of 62mph. Interested? these are some of the mods... ok. Again I take no responsibility. Take out the needle jet holder (the thing that holds your main jet) there shoul be 4 holes on each side, drill these out with a #62 bit (they use as low as #57 but you can always go bigger not smaller) all 8 that is both sides. Make sure you blow out all fragments!!!!! next drill out main jet with a #56 drill bit Now remove the slow jet (this is the one that has a screw head also and is counter sunk) drill the side holes with a #57 bit, this is for your low rpm flow and will help your low end torque, do not drill the main hole unless you have done work on your head. (the karts not you own) next remove the diaphram from the top of the carb and pull the pin out, carefull! on the larger hole on the slide drill it out with a #48 drill bit. If your needle is adjustable raise it a bit at this time. put it all together, cross your fingers and vooooooooooooom with this mod you will need the pipe and intake or else you will be very mad at me good luck, I will be hiding now.....

Ok, I did everything little by little for last 3 day's, now I'm done with the whole re-jet procedure> (also added a 3mm washer from the hobbie shop on needle), & 1 more added thing(cut 3 loop's off spring). A better off throttle reponse(a little quicker), run's very strong mid range> & very little or no change up top. Start's perfect, I really need a day out hard driving to actually see what is different/advantage. The CV is a very Tame Carb(except for the enrichner) , kinda forgiving. I had a ball doing it, & this same or close to this upgrade is all through Harley forum's. It's defintely running well/better, I feel it. I had an extra pilot jet so no problem replacing if a problem. Actually everything went perfect. I already had it rejetted with main # 132.5. Drilling the main jet holder had me sweating, but went perfect. I will get out now & test this, I couldn't find anyone here that tried it, so I was on my own. I read numerous forum's that had it good & other's say no change, well lets see if their correct. Taking gutted pipe off & putting HP Pipe / Muffer from ReliableGoCarts that'll be here tomorrow.

Stu, I've read that thread numerous time's, I even had it bookmarked for quite sometime. I took the steo only because I don't have the talent/patients to work with the VM26. I like the idea of working with the underdog CV and trying to improve it the best it can be(very foregiving Carb). I also cut 3 rings of the spring to lighten the tension. It's running great, and my new Primer Plunger Choke work's great >(enrichner) is gone> it was bad new's.

Now you have me wondering how well this mod would work with the 30mm pump Carb.. bigger and with a pump, and add these mods, it may be the answer? who knows..

This statement you just made(Now you have me wondering how well this mod would work) , is what really made me take the chance/step's I don't see why it wouldn't enhance the ovrerall performance especially with the added feature of the pump. I would do it in step's, >> drill out the 2 hole's on slide(I used a 5/32), cut 3 ring's off spring, >> then test your throttle response for any improvement. >> Then I would drill out the atomizer hole's on pilot(#62), and test again. >> Shim needle next, test again, then main jet holder. If your comfortable about the Mod, do it all at one hit and hold your breath.

you took 3 rings out of the spring? interesting. I tried 3 at first and couldn't get it to idle down. it wanted to take off as soon as I hit the starter. one turn is where I ended in order for it to sit still and idle. Could there be such a difference in manifold vacum between engine makers?
