Yes check that fuse. Then pull the blue (CDI kill) wire off the ignition switch and let it hang. THEN connect the red (solenoid) wire to the black (ground) and it should crank & start. Your motor wouldn't run before because the ignition switch is still OFF so the kill wire is still grounded. Once you're running you stop the engine by touching the blue wire to the black wire.
Replace your switch with 2 pushbuttons. Black goes to both.

It looks like there is no fuse, the last owners must have taken it out. Does anyone know how many amps the fuse should be? I'm, going to put one in...
FOUND IT, one of the battery cables had come off. I was probing around, I even tried to connect the solinoid directly but NOTHING, then I checked the cables and one was off.
Now I need a little gas, a couple more switches...
Yes, black and red starts it up, but what does the other (purple) wire do?

I must have shorted the regulator/rectifier or the CDI. Looks like the rectifier would be the first to go. dirty diaper!!!
there should be a 10 or 15 amp fuse in your electrical box some where in there, mine is back next to the cdi.it is in a fuse holder, surely they didin't do away with fuse and just hook the wires together, did they? the cdi or rectifier shouldn't have anything to do with the motor turning over. do what guy48065 recommened and you should be ok pud

your blue wire goes back to cdi and kills power to it.when grounded out.
you will need 2 push button switchs. hook one up( red and black)thats for starting............ second switch run a wire from (black ground side) of starting switch to that switch and then hook your blue wire to the other side of that switch, that should shut it down. pud

Now I'm not getting spark. Black + red and the motor cranks over, yay! haha, but now there is no spark. I pulled the plug (have a new one on the way) and I can't see any spark at all. Tried grounding it on different points, I even swapped out the coil with an extra I have, nothing.
Does the purple wire need to have power as well? Maybe it is powering the CDI? I just want this thing going!

You know what, I dont know if it is getting gas or not. There is plenty of gas in the tank, but I dont see any of it flowing into the clear lines!
How does the petcock work? I installed two on/off valves and I am sure they are open but I dont think any gas is coming threw the petcock! How is gas supposed to get through it?
Where is the screw for the float bowl?

do you still have the purple or blue wire hooked to the key switch????? if so it is keeping the cdi grounded out you won't get any fire to plug unhook that wire from switch then turn it over with red black wire it should start. pud
