This is just a reminder for the newer members (and forgetful older members) to update your profiles. As Steve posted in January, the ability to add this information during registration had to be eliminated due to those nasty spam “bots”:

It’s helpful for everybody if you at least put in your location. It can be vague—your city or even county would be enough to let others know if they might be communicating with somebody close by.
You can access your profile information once you’ve logged on. On nearly every page (except the Front Page and the Welcome Page) there is a link at the top to your Profile

Scroll down the profile page to see where you can add various information. Many members like to list their buggy and major mods in their Signature so that info accompanies your every post (you can deselect the “Attach Signature” box for a post if you don’t want the sig info displayed).

Adding an avatar to your profile is a little tricky but worth the little effort involved. The avatar must be sized to fit the available space so whatever image you want to use must be resized to a maximum of 125 pixels in height and width. Most any photo viewing program has the ability to do this. There is also a file size restriction of 39kB. If your resized photo exceeds this you can often manipulate the photo “quality” settings and resave. Different photo editors have different ways of adjusting this property. Check your application’s Help File for assistance.

While you’re updating your profile, take the time to add some pictures to your personal gallery. The gallery can be accessed by clicking the “Album” link right next to the “Profile” link. The page that opens will let you view everyone’s gallery or just your own. At the bottom of your Personal Gallery page is a button to Upload Pic. If you add a description to the upload, this text will be displayed whenever a member “hovers” their mouse over your image. It’s a cool way to describe in detail what the picture shows.

BuggyNews has thousands of members. A little bit of information in your profile helps everyone know "where you're coming from".
