Hi all,

Trying to remove engine from buggy to deal with my cylinder/piston/ring issue.

I've got the engine and the transmission split apart and about 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch gap between them, but I can't get them to fully separate. I've checked and rechecked and the engine doesn't appear to be binding on anything. It seems like the shaft going into the transmission is holding them together. The first 1/2 inch of separation is easy...I can move the motor back and forth to open/close the gap with no problem, but no matter how hard I pry and/or change the angle (raise/lower the engine slightly) it just won't fully separate.

Any thoughts? Is there some trick to getting them apart?

Thanks,

Doug

Was thinking about my problem. I didn't take the starter motor off. Would that somehow keep the motor/transmission from separating?

Thanks,

Doug

Yes you need to take the starter off, the starter bolts go into a plate between the block and tranz. The plate is behind the flywheel and will not alow the tranz to seperate from the engine with the bolts in.
