After several runs through the undeveloped lots behind the house, we finally took the buggy out to a decent place to ride. A couple miles from the house a contractor has a shale pit, some fields and woods he has built a track, some jumps and allows people to ride. It was a BLAST! However, the shale has an appetite for tires and we picked up a puncture. One of the regulars said it is pretty common and plugged it for me and I had my compact compressor. Then I realized the rear tires had tubes?????? The tires are in decent shape, I can’t figure why the previous owner had put tubes in them. The fronts look like they are running tubeless. I will remove the tubes and see if they hold air.

On that note, besides carrying a plug kit and an air compressor I thought I should take a spare tire set along to ensure our rides don’t get cut short. The buggy has 12 in wheels, 25x8x12 on front and 25x11x12 on rear. Will a front or rear wheel and tire work in a limp home application? Has anyone mounted a spare to their Sand Viper and which locations work the best?

Also, which brand of tires seem to have the best resistance to punctures?

I thought about building a roof rack to carry a tire, jack, tool kit, tow strap and small compressor but wasn’t sure if that is the best place.

Still a great afternoon. Anyone living in the South Central PA area (Chambersburg PA or Hagerstown MD) should come and give this place a try. Next weekend is the last weekend the owner opens it to the public. He uses the property for hunting and stops the riding to allow the deer to settle down. It will open back up in late December.

1. You can use a spare front wheel as a rear spare. A rear wheel up front has too much inside offset and will rub at full lock turns.

2. On 2007 and newer Joyners, a roof rack was standard - You can fit this rack to your older Joyner.

I use Kenda Executioners on my 800cc.

Best price I found is at http://www.motorcycle-superstore.com

Product Description -- (from the website)
■Meets the demands of some of the most aggressive 4x4 terrain
■New tread design for deep traction even in the muddiest conditions
■Reinforced knobs to reduce knob rollover at low pressure, improves ride comfort and increases tread life
■Dimpled tread surface for improved traction on dryer conditions
■6-ply rating with a new 2+2 casing for increased puncture resistance and improved handling
■New rim saver feature for protection against rock and rut damage

My review -
Pros:
They do real well in sand too.
Improved turning on loose dirt and sand.
Cons:
They Throw everything, rocks... mud... sticks.
More vibration on street driving. (just get to the dirt!)
They do weigh a little more than stock, but my buggy doesn't seem to mind.

Attachments:
File comment: They Get a little close to my springs, but they -Don't- rub.

Thanks for the info. I took the wheel to a tire dealer and had the tube removed and a valve stem installed. So far no leaks. I won the auction fora front and rear wheel on ebay. I am going to do more research on tires, but the ones you recommend are very appealing and will be difficult to top. I don't do much riding on hard top except to ride from the house to the empty lots behind the house (1/4 mile).

Thanks again,
Vincent

No, not yet. I found the Dirt Commander Tires on Ebay for $375 a set but I am still waiting on the spare front and rear wheels (1 of each) I bought on ebay. I paid for them Sept 21st, but never heard back from the seller or seen the parts.

I opened a dispute since I paid with PayPal. What a pain.

Anyways, I was hoping to get the spare wheels to use and keep a set of my existing tires as spares (Front to carry on vehicle). I also got busy rebuilding the suspension on my car and the buggy has been stored at my storage facility for a couple weeks.

I looked at the ebay listings... They both say "local pickup only". Looks like he is unwilling to ship them. But he should refund your money anyway. I've been burned on ebay before (only $8) but it's irritating. Paypal isn't much help.

Yea, I contacted him about the shipping, he gave me a price with shipping (paid extra of course). He was fine with taking the money, just not shipping. Also, none of his listings are available any more, even the completed listings. Someone did win a set of Joyner Seats from him, but no feedback was submitted. Strange.

I bought a Nascar Scanner with 2 headsets several months ago and it never showed. Paypal refunded my money. I am hoping I get some satisfaction with this as well.

I finally received the two wheels today. The seller shipped them Oct 14th, but received payment Sept 24th. I just wish he had replied to my emails. Oh well.

I also just ordered my 4 new GBC dirt commander 8 ply tires. Front 25x8x12, rear 25x10x12. With the 8 ply I am thinking the ride will be rough, but oh well. The place we will ride most frequently is a shale pit and punctures are common. We suffered on (or more) the last time we went. However, the shale pit is closed for riding until after hunting season.

Now I just need to buy the spare tire rack.

This is the only one I have found. I was hoping I could find a cheap basic rack and add the spare bracket.
