Yes, my roketa is now street legal in Indiana!
Actually, this was very easy to acomplish.
I had a cop come out to verify the vin number.
got insurance as a passenger vehicle and went to the DMV.

I ran in to two small problems.
The mso stated it was a go kart. The DMV could not use that in their computer.
So they gave me a form stating that it was rebuild to a convertable buggy.
A cop had to verify this and they did without a problem.
If you don't have your MSO yet, ask for one that identifies your buggy as a buggy and not a go kart.

and secondly, the cop said i needed a light for the licence plate.
I spend $4 to buy one...

I asked if I needed a rear view mirror, a windshield or a speedometer.
The cop said no not needed.
I ordered a speedometer from trail tech anyway..

It was fun driving my buggy legally on the streets.
people were waiving and even a police officer that came by didn't stop me.

Now i got to find me some better tires for paved roads and make some changes to make the buggy faster.

Amazing! Al those items they let you slide on are required here in MI--and much more :(
I'm hoping the increase in gas prices will force some quick changes to the rules. I don't see any reason all this junk is required on a 4-wheeled vehicle but not on a 2-wheeled vehicle.

I will check out for the tires. thanks.

here in indiana New Castle, if you read the rules, it also requires all the stuff.
my buggy came with the headlights, brakelights, turnsignals, seatbels, horn,...
the cop i had come read the vin number wasn't a police officer, but from the Sheriff office.
He said he doesn't have a windshield on his motorcycle, so he couldn't think why i need one.
he also said he didn't have a rearview mirror, so ..

The speedometer I get anyways from trailtech. Should be in this week.

I was more worried about the tires, since the ones i have now are not DOT approved.
The cop even didn't bother the 20 stickers on the dune buggy saying offroad use ONLY. LOL
I did remove them now tho..

Just got to make this buggy faster now..
Next year, knowing i can make it street legal, I will go with a 800 or 1000cc buggy.

Are you going to the Badlands in August?

wesece,

What insurance company did you go through for your Roketa, I cant find one that will insure a Roketa GK-39. The go-kart is street legal and has plates, just need the insurance.

Anyone else have any ideas to get street legal insurance for this go-kart.

I live in Wyoming

Thanks, mbyte22

That's the key to whole thing.

GEICO and ALLSTATE are the two that seem to be the most popular.
