to boost my f8b engine, he’s very happy with the mod you did for him.
Please tell me what you can do for me and of course the price.
Thank you very much

Mike's reply:
" It was some time ago, and I don't think I have a file on it, but if I recall, it was my standard head package, including rebuild, cam, and machining for increased compression. He should have gotten a build sheet with it, so he may have the exact details."
Mike's seconf reply:
"I have several good cam profiles for that application." and " I did a bit of research, and I think I know exactly what I did. .020" resurface, port/polish, and 210/.340" cam. We were careful, because it was my first one, but I would now machine for more compression, likely .040", and use a little more lift, and duration. Mike Cove 3tech."

Gilles,
Mike remembers correctly. Port and polish, .020" removed, .340 lift @ 210 degrees duration. We were a bit conservative as my deck was only.005" and we were not sure of valve to piston clearances.
Shaving .040" will up the compression 1 full point but the increased duration will keep the cylinder pressures in check so detonation will not be a problem. You will need to order a topend gasket kit from Sean at Super Karts or Joyner to complete your install. MotoUS will be useless as a resource for anything.
The guy from turbin tech told me that a Turbo IHI RHB32. ($725.00 only for turbo and $2500 to be all set )will do the job maximum boost torque at 1800 rpm. I had done a lot of searh and now i'm competely lost. HEad shaved or headers and carby or turbo kit or engine swap. I need advice from you guys thank

Gilles, My 2 cents on the subject is this....I too, own the MotoUs 800. It cost me some $4300 plus the tax in CA. I wanted more power or better gear ratios for desert use, but did not want to invest $2500 for a turbo in a buggy that was worth maybe $3500 on the used market place. Rather than go with a turbo, I would choose to sell my buggy for maybe $3500 and then buy a new 1100cc unit from Super Karts for ~$5600.00. I spend the same amount of money but now I have a newer more powerful buggy, with the lower ratio gearbox. If I choose to modify that..so be it.
Now, having said all that, if one reviews my extensive modifications to my 800, you see that I have indeed, invested that additional $2500+ in both the power mods and running gear. This not only includes the engine modifications but ignition, Fox Shocks, guages, lower ratio transmission, tires, seat belts, carb mods, K&N filter and exhaust system. Recently Nitrous Oxide was added to defeat the $20,000 Rhino challengers in informal drag racing. My buggy will haul and handle. I will be doing another dyno run in the near future and I expect some 70+hp at the rear wheels under the giggle gas. Granted, the nitrous option is only short term power, but with the other mods and the transmission, I do not feel that I am underpowered for where I ride. The nitrous will take care of my brief need for speed.
So why did I not heed my own advice? Well, I can revert most of my unit back to the stock configuration if I choose to sell. Besides, the 1100 wasn't available until recently and, if I did do the turbo, I would still have done most of the other modifications as well. Also, my parking/storage space in my shop has only a 68" opening (6'0 double doors). My buggy is ~67" wide, and just makes it in.
I guess my point is, that you will need to evaluate your own situation and expectations to see if a $2000 turbo option will be the answer, For me, if a turbo kit was maybe half that cost, I go for it. But for now, I'm debating buying the 1100cc from Super Karts and swapping what I can over to it and then selling my 800. Still, the 1100 may not fit through the door.....
I am wondering if smaller rear tire could make a difference instead the low ratio trany, our tire are 25 10 12 if I install a 22 10 12 , sould i have more torque? thanks again gilles

Gilles, Of course installing smaller rear tires will lower your overall gear ratio. The stock tire is 24.5" in diameter. The new trie is ~22". That is a reduction of about 11% overall. You also reduce your ground clearance under the tranny by .75" as well.
The newer tranny carries a 1st gear/final drive ratio that is some 30% lower than your current set up. So really, it is not close. But if the ground clearance issue is not a problem, the smaller tires will help.
Mick I called a guy, he's going to shave my head for $59.00 if I bring him the head. my mechanic skill are as a newbe. That will be my first mod on the engine. I'm also looking for a weber carb 32/36. I'll probably buy it on ebay. Someone told that the suzuki samourai kit with a few minor mod would do the job. For the trany I would like to purchase it but I'm in Canada and the price + shipping and custom taxes might be a little bit expensive. I'm also looking for an used IHI RHB32 turbo. God I would like to live in the US it would more easy. thanks again for your help.
I went out this morning for ride and climbing those hill it is really fun but could be better with more torque. I hope that shaving the head give me more torque . A+ Gilles

Gilles,
Good luck with it. You can send your cam to Mike Cove for a regrind while your head is off getting shaved. The cost is very reasonable and the performance worth it. It is a very simple job to remove and re-install the cam. The proceedure is detailed in the service manual download available in the engine section.
Let us know how it works out for you. all the best, mick
