I have done both ways.
Push it in towards the trans and then jerk it out as hard as you can.
Sometimes I have had to put a large crowbar between the cup and trans but I really do not like that method.
The push then pull quickly is the safest method.
Why are you removing the axle? Have you broken a CV Joint?

I would def use that. Just tighten the castle nut as much as you can then put in as thick of a cotter pin as will fit.

Or you could do what I did to my Joyner 650 LOL
Image

BTW I do not recommend my method...

Anyway you will be fine.

Arctic Cat hubs work with the 650 and larger buggies. Has anyone tried an Arctic Cat stub or axle in our application?

The Artic Cat axles need to be cut down as they are too long.

I think his axle is fine and I personally would use it.

Continuing on same question. Is there a c clip between eng and cv? I had the same issue with more damage. Bought the whole unit but really only needed the outer cb I guess. If I could get inner cv off I would. What am I doing wrong?

They come out - push the axle in towards the engine then yank it out as hard as you can.
It will come, they always do.

Thanks. I can't see a c clip but there isn't much room. Is it possible that I have to remove the gas tank or the bottom panel?

The clip sits on the transmission output shaft, you cannot see it until the axle is removed.

Here is how to remove it...

1) The correct and easiest way, use a slide hammer with a 90 degree end on it (I do not have one of these)

2) push it in towards the engine until the axle is compressed as far as it will go - then pull it towards you as quick and hard as you can. It will POP out.

3) NOT RECOMMENDED -- get someone with a long long pry bar, put pry bar between axle cup and transmission, have them push on bar while you do step 2.

I have done both 2 and 3

3 will def get the axle out but you risk damaging the transmission casing (havent done that yet) or marking up the axle cup (I have done that)

The axle will come out, it just takes alot of force. I have removed my axles prob 6-8 times so far.

So far I have pushed the cup back in and pulled with no luck. The only thing to grab onto is the cup since the rest came apart at the joint. I have tried a crowbar between cup and tranny as well. No luck. Getting ready for the hammer method. The fluid needs to be out of tranny also, right? In some odd world would that affect this coming off?

Is the c clip between the inner cup and the transmission? Could it be inside the inner cup and I can't get to it? I don't see one but then again I'm frustrated.

Forget blue loctite - this is what you need - I am sure this will not loosen..

I finally got the cv inner cup off! Thanks so much crispin and tigger! It took two of us a come along chain and a pry bar plus elbow grease. Glad that's done. Now I'm gonna tackle the torn boot on the other side.
