I live in Maryland east of the Bay. I just bought a tomberlin punisher from a guy at work for $400. Its about 3 years old, runs good but a little difficult to start.
I have to crank it over 5-10 times and give it a liitle gas to start. I put a new C7hsa in the Howitt motor. This was the best match Pep Boys had. I can't find a gap set so I put it in new. Is this a problem with the electric choke system.
Thanks for anyone and everyones help.

Most likely the choke aint working or the valves are tight. Valves show them self most on warm starts but could be

The choke is probably fine. Check the valve lash.

Dude!!! Welcome to the buggy world!!!

The punisher is a cool buggy!

I would love to meet ya!

Im in northern NJ... We have a beloved dealer/local club member name Tom at Kidnmekarts.com, who isnt too far from you!!! If you need ANYTHING, I am 100% positive he can help you with anything you need!!

As far as local efforts go, make sur eyou sign up in our forum as well!

www.northeastbuggy.com

Click on forums and join!!! We are a pretty diverse group up and down the north east coast, and we all try to get together as often as our schedules allow to ride and have fun!!!

As far as your issue goes, I would start at your valve lash... To check that, you need to pull the valve cover off the top of the motor (4 bolts, 8mm i think), and then you need a feeler guage to check the gap between the cam and the valve stem with the engine at top dead center on the compression stroke...(piston at the top of the cylinder, 2 small holes in cam level with head surface, large hole at 12 o'clock position...)

Your intake and exhaust should be between .003 and .004... I run .003 on the intake, and .004 on the exhaust. If they are way above that gap, or a lot tighter, then you need to loosen the little jam nut and tighten or loosen the rocker stem...

Welcome and good luck with the buggy!!!

John :D :D :D

Fellow Crossfire Owner here :)

Welcome. This is a great place to come for info on these buggies. I just got mine about 2 months ago and this site has been awesome. I'm sure you'll enjoy it as well.

Cheers,

Triton

YES!!!!! MORE CROSSFIRES! MORE CROSSFIRES!

Welcome to the madness!!!

we are growing in numbers. when I first hit this board there were only about 3 crossfires, (dune, punisher) and now we just keep getting bigger.

With a little luck by next years national we will have enough to do some serious brand banging on the flats.
