That lead law was created with financial backing and support from the major manufacturers (yamaha, kaw, suz, honda etc) with the intention of knocking out the china competition. They were losing their butts. Problem is, it backfired and inadvertantly hosed them on thier kids stuff for that period of time.

at least the goverment gave ALL the manufactors 2 years to meet the min. standards for lead. it did do some good things by knocking out alot of the bad china stuff

Wow! I don't know how I missed it, but we REALLY, effectively outlawed the cheapy 4 wheelers. Thought the rumor was over blown like most. Especially all of those 110cc and greater ones that are "designed for youth". Between the CPSIA, which outlawed lead in anything made for kids undr 12 (no exceptions by the way; no lead battery terminals) and the 4 wheeler safety act (whatever it's called), they won't be seen.
The Chinese just won't do a 4 wheeler "action plan", nor have them 3rd party tested. I haven't finished reading the regs, but this is why you won't se them any more:

it will effect us some. the epa is strickter now and everything coming in will be checked and tested. the good side is all the junk will be gone and dealers like mysself that sell the good ones will be better off.
