It looks like the drive belt snapped on our kart yesterday. Hopefully the engine didnt suffer from the break (the belt wedged in between the sprocket(?) and casing and abruptly shut the engine down). It sounded rough after I finally restarted it before I realized what had happened. It would only stay running with the throttle held to the floor. Have not started it since the belt was removed. Provided the engine is ok, what kind of mods can I do to the engine and drivetrain? It looks like somethine else snapped in the sprocket attached to the crank. There are some roundish pieces of metal inside the sprocket housing. I'm guessing these are some kind of counterweights that may have broken? I would like a little more bottom end if possible. What kind of sprocket upgrades should I do? Anything to the CVT? Quick and easy engine mods? The kart is most likely a KD-150FS with a GY6. It looks exactly like a Roketa KTR-150A but it is not a Roketa.

"Springer",
Good job finding such an awesome deal!
It is probably easy to guess what I suggest you do to your buggy but perhaps you may be interested to learn what t41cpilot has done to his recently aquired machine; he has his running like a BRUTE.
You haven't done any additional damage in the CVT area (most likely).
It's very common for the variator to open up fully when a belt breaks and the roller weights inside it to come loose as you have described. As long as you can still find all six weights and they are intact (no gouges or significant damage), you can reinstall them inside the variator when you are replacing the belt.
You might find that the rollers have some flat wear spots on them from normal use. If so, you might want to consider replacing them with new rollers or sliders (same function as rollers, just a different shape).
If you need any help with installing the new belt and/or setting the variator back up correctly, click the first link in my signature below and look for the tutorial on the 150cc CVT guide.
As for mods, there are a great many that you can do - it really depends on the kind of riding you do as to which specific parts you'll need.
For more bottom end I'd recommend getting some 10g sliders and a yellow main spring. You might lose a little off the top end, but if you remove the stock airbox, add a UNI filter and rejet your carburetor you'll gain that back and have more power overall.
Yea Mike is right on. My first question is what budget are you working with? You can do any where from 20 bucks to around 1000 bucks to one of these motors. More than that if you dont want to get dirty Your cheapest and most common are sliders or rollers, main spring, clutch spring, uni filter, and jets. Some like a cutted exhaust but I think it sounds really bad. You can drill some holes in the end like Pud

the best bang for the buck is the cvt mods. changing the rollers , main spring and maybe the clutch springs will really wake the buggy up. you can do the cvt mods for around 89.00, thats a complete kit.

Thanks for the replies. They all sound perfect. Where do you find these parts? Anyone know of any local dealers in the Houston area or will this be an online endeavor? I found a website called scouterdynasty.com that appeared to have just about everything for the GY6. I have also read about many unscrupulous dealers on this site also. Any advice will be appreciated. Thanks again for the replies.
