I've got to say,Dave and his staff @ AB Powersports have always been knowlegable and will not sell something that is going to be junk. That is why I trust their products and will buy from them. That being said, I want to make sure my next buggy purchase will be given as much thought as possible because money is tight, and I can't afford to make any mistakes. I've been contemplating the Phoenix 300 and the Yama Buggy. However, I have not heard any reviews from folks who have the 300, and I am aware of the clutch problem that is being remedied. But when you compare the two statisticly, the Yama has a bit more power and torque, but the 300 is about 200 pounds lighter. The 5 speed trans seems cool, but the CVT is simple. The Yama Buggy has more top end, but you could see in Dave's videos that the 300 had a gob of twist. They both have what seem to be great suspensions. The 300 is about $3,900 and the Yama is around $5,500. The 09 Yama Buggy is much more!
What my question boils down to is this-If anyone out there has been lucky enough to have driven them both, is the Yama Buggy worth the extra $$.
Thanks for your input! TB
Just need a little advice before I part with the cash!!

I dont know of anyone here that has a 300. but you can cross yamabuggy off the list. there are still law suites pending, parts are not avaliable, and no yamaha dealer will touch it.

if you want a 300 I would consider the kinroad (phoneix ) or the carter.

You can also pick up a nice used Joyner 650 for $3500-4500.

I'd really like to see someone get one of those Phoenix 300s. I like the suspension and the fact that it isn't front heavy. Looks like about the same hp as the Carter. I just wonder about reliability.

the main reason why i bought the HH400(yamabuggy) is because of the seating, 5 speed and engine. i really wanted the phoenix 300, but with the half seats, it would not comfortably seat both my wife and me. i like being close, but not that jammed. if i could have bought 2, then i would have gone with the 300. the 400, runs great. after some initial adjustments in the air/fuel, changing the dirty diaper fluids that's in it, it's fine. i have about 60+ miles on mine now. it's really loosening up. the suspension is good. it will pull a hill like no other buggy i've been in. it pulls better than a modified stinger. and it can be make street legal in some states(60+ mpg) helps. but, it is getting chilly riding now.
i've not been in a carter 300, but they look great. i was considering one of them also. but circumstances dictated the HH400. Dave is a great guy and i would trust buying from him tremendously. Eric is also on the top of my list of trustworthy dealers. so, if you want to buy something comfortable and with the comfort of a good dealer, go with either dave or eric. i know they will take care of you after the sale. i bought my HH400 from a car dealer that i thought would have great after sale service, but, i'm still waiting on a warranty claim to be filled. the new yamabuggy, is the same engine as mine, the frame and suspension is a bit better, but i dont think it's worth the 8k they want for it. not in these economic times. so, if you have 5k to spend on a buggy, make sure you can seat 2 comfortably(if thats a need), after the sale support and a honest dealer. good luck and when you decide on what you want and get it, call into the show and lets talk about it. we'd love to hear from ya. or call before and we'll talk about it and hopefully some listeners will call in and give you their advice.

Buggie Geek, although I doubt you are, the Joyner 650 sounds good. I live near you in Canyon Lake and it appears you live in Murietta. I wouldn't know where to find a used buggy or what to look for if I found one. Any info on that?
Thanx-TB

Wow, mother load! What do you search under when you're on Craig's list? I've tried before, but I'm a tech loser.
