Need help baja dn 250, starts and idle's but when you give it gas it coughs and sputters then dies. Starts right back up though. Figure its the carb. Any help will be greatful. Thanks ahead of time.

Has it been sitting for a while? Chances are the main jet is clogged from the gas in the carburetor bowl going bad.

Remove the carburetor and clean it, paying special attention to the carburetor jets.

I had a lot of problems with my carb when I first bought my buggy. It actually ran fine at first, but then I started dinking around with the jetting, and I must have messed up the float level or something because it never ran well after that. I tried using different intake boots, adjusting the float levels and jets galore. Nothing worked.

I finally decided to just purchased a bigger 30mm cv carb on e-bay for $50, and that fixed all the problems. The carb definitely fit more snuggly in the intake boot and that made a huge difference. No more vacuum leaks. My buggy runs better than ever, and that slightly bigger carb, was one of the better purchases I have made.

Thanks for the replys, I just clean the carb and put it back on, still does the same thing. checked the intake for cracks didn't see any, also noticed when i adjusted the air fuel mixture screw nothing changed rather screwed all the way in or all the way out.

Usually any leaks in the intake are small fissures that you can't easily see with the naked eye.

With the buggy idling, spray carb cleaner on the intake manifold and listen for ANY change in the idle. If the idle changes at all, then you've got an air leak somewhere.

Ill try the carb cleaner trick again tried it last night but couldn't hear any change. I just figured when i put carb back together i screwed something up. And yes it was sitting for awhile dumped the gas out of the tank and cleaned the carb twice now.

In 20 years of working on motorized vehicles, the carb cleaner trick has never worked for me. I can already tell you with absolute certainty that you have a bad vacuum leak. Your observation about the mixture screw proves it.

So the question becomes, what do you want to do now? I tried different intake boots on my 250, and it didn’t make any difference. Still you may want to try that first. Intake boots cost about $11 shipped on E-bay. I think your buggy has a cn250 clone motor, in which case, an intake with a 48mm bolt pattern and 28mm interior diameter should do the trick. Measure yours before ordering.

ok ill check the intake boot again, you dont thank carb is screwed up than, and also if i decide to get a intake boot and maybe a carb can i go ahead and get a 30mm? Do i have to do any other mods with a 30mm carb. Thanks for the help.

pull the carb off and take a flash light and look in the throat where the air filter connects. I have some of those that had a casting flaw in the throat. it will look like a very fine crack
