Well my friend decided to get a new aftermarket stock cylinder/piston kit through the dealer. We located a bunch online, but it's always a crapshoot if they are any good. This way, if there are any problems, can go back to the dealer. Also, the dealer is going to put the rings in the piston for him. Should have it next week and installed by the weekend. We did forget to do a compression test before we took it apart. We knew there were problems, but I like to at least have a base line.

Keep us updated sockman this is all good info this maybe should have been in its own topic :)
Are you guys using a service manual?
When you go back together and add the coolant there should be bleader at the water pump and one at thermostat housing to get air out if system.

No,no you took it the wrong way sockman.
I don't care what anyone says in my started topics.
To me it's real life stuff. meaning you can start working on a engine and go off in all directions while working on engine
I know some just like to stay on topic and that's fine also.
Again in my topics I don't care so don't stop I'm learning too

I hear ya! I think my buddy downloaded the manual so we'll reference it when we put it back together. We did find that the aftermarket kit that they recommended is no longer in production. Sooo, he decided to bore the original case. There are good used ones on Ebay for not terrible money if this doesn't go well. He's not looking for a race machine, just something that runs and doesn't leave a cloud of dust like pigpen.

Saw some heavy duty single seaters in the first picture, suspect they kind of slowed the group down a little.

Does look like you had a good time. And it looks like a friend of yours says you are number 1. =D>

I never thought I would say this but love the power steering on my rzr. We were riding down at St Joe this past weekend and was doing a lot of technical stuff and it sure made it a lot easier on the old man. When I get some free time I am going to try to put one on my cousins 500 Jaylaris. Of all the rigs I have had these need it the most.

I seldom drink while I am riding but do hate it when I spill some.

I hear that loud and clear rich man do I wish this rhino had it I did look at kit once the price scared me.this rhino is a old machine on trails I mention that the other day to the guys with power steering
When you put it in 4wd or its even harder to steer up over rough stuff.i'm only running around 8psi in tires also.
I was told I should trade it get something new but there is a lot of running left in it and don't want the payment.
Had fun though I like to take something and still run with the big boys but I'm paying #-o :D I even got that is a carbed engine a couple times I guess they don't see the 660 on hood :D

GmanLv did a Saturn electric power steering kit he got out of a salvage yard on his that he is happy with. Chevy cobalt had the same style set up. That is what I am going to try to do on my cousins, either a Saturn or Cobalt. I was going to go to a pick and pull and see what I can come up with.

I remember seeing his post about that. I'm wondering how much more extra stator power I would have for something like that.stock stator don't put out a whole a lot and everything I'm running now I'm probably maxed out
I will probably just leave it the way it is and stay the hell out of the places I have been going.also just don't feel like turning wrenches anymore.i don't know you you guys stay at it all the time,my hat is off to you for it.
I hate to do what I have to do anymore

Pud I have been turning wrenches for so long I guess I don't know how to do anything else. I do admit it does get tiring sometimes. I guess that is one of the reasons I went to the dark side.

That's understandable, Pud. It gets old after awhile, especially if you are fixing the same thing time and again. It's nice to be able to just hop in and go and not worry about stuff breaking on the trail. My buddy finally got his cylinder back from the dealer so imagine we'll try and put that thing back together sometime soon, maybe today. Hope it goes well. The one dealer we spoke to told us all the problems we were going to have, but he was giving my friend the hard sell.

Where you at, Pud?? We got my friend's '04 Rhino back together tonight (top end rebuild) and it seems to be running well. No more smoke. It used to be like a mosquito fogger before we rebuilt it (aka Bam's campground skeeter protection). It all went back together alright, at least we hope.

Did yall get it bored or just hone it and new rings/piston? My 700 is starting to fog fairly good when applying the fogger/accelerator pedal.

Had to be bored over to its last bore. I forget what size, but it can't be bored again. It's a Yamaha piston. I want to say with all the stuff, oil, filter, piston/ring kit, new plug, machine work, gaskets, Yamalube, coolant, etc he's into it for about $400. We got it started and he's run it a little bit here and there and says it's running fine. No smoke. I think we got lucky and got it right the first time! He'll run it, but not hard, for the next month and then change the oil and call it good. That was my 3rd top end build and his first, so it was kinda the blind leading the blind but it wasn't bad.
