Just busted CV axle out of my Carter GT-R 250. Pretty common accurance from what I gather. Trying to figure out what my options. Are. Can I just buy CV axle by itself?? Is the CV axle pressed on the rest of the axle. Buy a a gorilla axle is the CV axle included. Buy Carter's 1000$ live axle replacement. ???? Any info would be helpful.

$1000??? I think Gorilla axles are about $400 each shipped. That's what I have on mine, but if I were looking I'd check with Big E at Prattville Powersports and see if they can get some. I know they're showing out of stock, but I'd still call them to see.
If not, GoPowersports.com is showing some in.

You mean this one?
http://www.carterbrothersparts.com/cart ... s-kit.html

It says "This kit WILL NOT work if you have a DIFFERENTIAL on your machine." Does he have a differential on his GTR?

I am the HE in your sentence: "idk what he has."

What I did is the use the same length for the live axle but got it bigger. The original live axle is 18 splines depending on the year and some rare model came with 24 splines. Well, when I developed my prototype, I didn't know that.

The live axle I did have 24 splines. I got some CV Axles make to measure in China and bought a load of it. You can't buy anything 2 in China. I took the measure and got some sample done before buying a load of it. I did the test and it work after a few adjustment.

The live axle is made in Canada as I am from Canada.

It state on the website that it don't fit machine with differential because I didn't have a machine with differential. Since, I bought a machine with a differential and they are different. If you have a machine with a live axle, the brake rotor and sprocket are 5 bolts pattern. If you do have a differential, you have a 6 bolts pattern.

I machined a hub to hook up the brake rotor and sprocket on.
This is the hub I did:

There's more difference than anyone can think on those GTR 250.
- You can get a live axle with 18 splines
- You can get a differential with 18 splines
- You can get a differential with 24 splines

I never came across with a live axle with 24 splines so far but I'm sure it exist too.

I have 4 GTR 250 that I use to do test. They are all working. I have 2 machines that are 38 machines apart if you check the serial number. I was working on them and both are different. The change is not big but they are different.

If you have any specific questions, let me know. I don't mind to help you.

My biggest problem is to get info from people. I asked people to send me pictures of the differential and try to retrofit it BUT no one did, so I bought a machine with a differential. This is the hardest part, get accurate info.

Sorry, I never did the original one with 18 splines as they break. This is the problem I did have with my original one. I would have to check but it won't be tomorrow for sure. Another problem is that you need to be able to test it and I don't have any 18 splines cv axle.

Hey Max
...of course I busted my GTR-250 axle. Pretty sure its 24 spline / diff [6 bolt rotor]

Question, do you have any axles you'd be willing to part with?
Thanks
Keith

Hey dhaney, it is not such big trouble. CV axle repairing could be a messy thing to do for sure, but only if you do it on your own. but if you are somewhere in San Francisco or near California, I would most likely to refer Axle Surgeons. They are experienced and qualified for this repair job. Otherwise, the cost you mentioned about $1000 for CV axle is too much.
