I have a turbo charged 1600 SV and have blown the stock tranny up twice now. What I have left is no longer salvageable. Has anyone tried swappin in a completely different trans behind the 1600? If it truly is a knockoff of a ford engine than I am planning on bolting up a MXT75. The MXT75 is what is being run in most modern 5 speed fords. The joyner is a copy of the Ford CVH motor, which was later used as the platform for the ford zetec family. I plan(hope) to be able to get the trans, pressure plate clutch and flywheel, and inboard CVs from a pull a part yard soon. I am really hoping the ford flywheel bolts up. I am not certain what to do about CVs though. My first thought is to take my joyner outers and ford inners to a driveline shop and have a new shaft splined to match. I am kind of skidish about the sleeving thing as I am planning to make some horsepower...which is what got me into this mess! What say you all?

Hey so I've done a lot of looking into this and found that mid 80's vw transmissions will fit and work great from rabbits and old jetta. Both are available in a 4 speed or 5 speed. Clutches and everything!

I'm in the same boat with a sv1600 and looking for parts. And yes it's a replica CVH engine from escorts. I recently changed my tiny belt and water pump.

I hope I helped a little?

I too am looking for a trans for my 1600 Supercharged SV. I destroyed mine like a big dummy trying to show-off to my buddy who has a 1600 turbo charged one. I have 31" bigfoot tires in the rear and was on the street....shifted into second dropped the clutch ...and Kaboom!!! I should have know better. But of course my ego got in the way!!!! let me know what you guys figure out I will be junk yard jumping the next couple of weeks looking for a viable swap....hopefully a bolt in replacement.....

So here is an update. I procured a MTX75 out of an '03 focus, plus shift cables, flywheel and pressure plate, crank sensor, shifter, and one cv shaft for $100 at a pull-a-part yard. I have the trans and flywheel and pressure plate bolted to the engine. I had to cut the frame directly under the trans out as it hangs down lower than the stocker. The starter is going to have to be relocated to the exhaust side of the motor. I plan on cutting some 1/4" steel plate and bolting it to the lower bell housing, then cutting a hole in that to mount the starter to. I plan on trashing the cv axles except the outboard joint, and then having custom shafts cut and splined to match the joyner outer joint to the ford inner joint. I am going to have to extend the shift cables some how. Currently thinking about going and getting another set of cables and somehow splicing them together to get the length I need. All the stock shift linkage is coming out along with the shifter. I am currently building a top transmission mount for the MTX75 that will connect to the upper horizontal tube of the chassis. I will not be using the mount that was on the rear of the motor exhaust side. I plan on installing a universal clutch master cylinder on the existing clutch pedal and throwing away the cable. All but 1 bolt hole lines up on the bell housing to motor connection. I'm fine with that. May drill the trans out to get that last bolt in. That pretty much sums up where I'm at on it. Oh yeah, the crank sensor. I am going to bore a 1.5" hole in the block webbing to put the crank sensor in close to the same position as it is on the zetec motor. The zetec block is the grandchild of the CVH block so they are similar enough. My goal here is to make it to where if I grenade another trans its an easy swap, easy parts find. Pretty sure the MTX75 will be able to handle at least 200hp.

Oh, and the VW thing. I want to squash that. If you break anything but the bellhousing part of the case you can replace it 1 to 1 with a VW part if you aren't scared of rebuilding a trans(my first diff explosion I did this and jb welded the case up). You have to have that special Chery bell housing. You can take the entire chery trans apart and fill it with VW 020 trans parts, but that damn case is a special one off from chery and you cant get it. If you grenade the diff and need a new case you are screwed. A new chery/joyner trans is $1200.

The new trans "hangs" from a top mount. This is my attempt at building the top mount. The only mounts are the top mount and an anti-roll mount that will stop the twisting motion. I will also have the stock 2 front mounts. I had to cut the chassis out that was underneath the trans as this one is hanging down. Before going out and getting rowdy I will likely weld back in some protection and support at that spot.

Finished the ford/joyner axle adapter for the drivers side. I work for a major oil service company and a lot of our shop equipment is idled with no one even in some of the shops anymore. Lucky for me I have the time to learn how to use some of it. The passenger side wont have any windows cut in it. Shouldn't have done that but oh well, I will fix it when it breaks.

Boomstick...Do you still have the internals from the old tranny?

No update yet, I've been too busy with work. I have rolled around in my head how I am going to do certain things. I think I am going to build a plate where the dust cover would go on the trans to mount the starter. Definatly going to get some custom axle shafts made that fit the ford and joyner ends.
