Dr Pulley is made in Taiwan. Chinese by-proxy. :)

One of the funniest things I have seen from the Chinese parts wholesalers is when they take the time to point out in their catalogs that something is "High quality - made in Taiwan!"

Apparently even THEY know the stuff made in China isn't as good as what's made on a tiny island off the coast! :D

What's really funny is it wasn't THAT long ago that made in taiwan meant cheap junk!

I am not a owner of a GTR, however I do have a Malossi clutch in the Dune (250 swap) it was included in the purchase of the motor. I have not adjusted it at all, and it has the white springs that Firebird mentioned. I also have the Hit clutch in my Joyner.

The Malossi wins in my book. The white springs initial engagement is just above idle then it locks in. Look at this video and you can see the initial engagement and when it locks in. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oBBTJgTQirg That's when I go into the power slide, and in the middle I decided to make it a dounut.

will the clutch mod make it difficult to putt putt around? like creep or crawl over rocks and such. ? does its engagement like a jarring or still pretty smoother at lower power takeoffs?

Taiwon deffinately makes a better product than the Chinese. Many of the Taiwanees parts are made in China but with strict quality control, just as many American and Japanese products are.Unfortunately today since China makes exclusive claims to Taiwon many of the Chinese parts are marked "Made in Taiwon". If one wants a true Made in Taiwon part one should purchase only from a known Taiwonese wholesaler, which can be a challenge. The SYM GY6 engine Carter uses in their buggies is probably one of the best which is made in Taiwon. TOM

No. It will make it perform better at all levels. It engages at a little higher rpm, that's all. But it grips better and gets more powwer to the wheels. When you do the clutch , get rid of the plastic piece on the main spring. You'll gain about 3mph.

Yep, I gained at least that, maybe even 5 mph (when I did this while installing the Mallossi red torque spring & went to sliders instead of rollers).
I run the Hit clutch (& Im very pleased w/it), (I am using the stock bell w/the Hit I got from Gocartacus - cheap) but I think the Mallossi guys are getting as good (or better) clutch action, (w/simpler adjustments) for less dough...
I gotta say tho; the stock clutch is no slouch either. I ran the OEM clutch for at least a thousand miles, & it has never slipped even in tough sand dunes, etc... And it still looks brand new.

has anyone tried to change the springs alone in the stock gtr clutch? maybe the springs alone are the difference?

Ths springs are the MAIN difference. The stock clutch in the GTR is actually a very good clutch. Probably better than just about any stock clutch you'll find. You could easily swap out the springs and get that wow factor. Where the aftermarket clutches come in is their ability to fine tune beyond the stock clutch. The dr pulley has that set of pillow springs on the back and the Malossi has the movable back plates. With the stock clutch and springs you can set three different levels, above stock. With the Malossi that jumps up to 27. SO, someone who is willing to take the extra time and headache to get it just right will squeeze that extra little bit out, not to mention they will have better flexibility to maximize their setup under various riding conditions.
