Hey Guys,
I was hoping some of you 440cc transplant techs could help me out here. Say you had a buggy with an IRS gearbox, similar to what you see on many Roketa’s. Now the gearbox has a driveshaft coming out of it which in-turn connects to the Bell Clutch in the CVT.
Now to me, it seems like a no-brainer to install a 440cc snowmobile engine with this setup. I would think you could justattach a CN250 variator to the output shaft of the 440 and then run a standard belt to the bell clutch, attached to IRS gearbox.
Am I missing something here? Is there any reason you shouldn’t try and preserve the CN250 CVT setup with a 440cc snowmobile engine? I for one think it would be great! I like the fact that I can mod the poop out of the CVT and would like to try and maintain that versatility if possible.

A 440cc snowmobile drive clutch has a wider belt than the 250 driven clutch could even handle. If you used the 250cc belt you would be missing more than half the power out of the bigger engine. If you have the complete snowmobile (drive and driven clutch), it would be much easier to just implement a jackshaft setup with the driven clutch that way you could align a sprocket to the existing sprocket for the irs setup. And, depending on the 440 engine, it would turn way to many rpm's for a 250 clutch, not to mention the shaft sizes are different. Also, the 440 engine most likely uses a tapered shaft while the 250 clutch uses splines to mount up.
