Ok I am new here!! My dad has been looking into a buggy! Our friend up the street has a Joyner 650 Sand Viper that he lets me and my friends drive around!! Its great(Exept for rocks when your doin 40mph) but we want one to!!

So my question is, How is Roketa??
How are the GK-32,21, and 20s??
Are Joyners really worth the extra$$??
How is the Joyner 650 Sand Spyder compared to the Viper??Suspention?

Thanks, Counterpart!!

ok now
roketa is known as the cheep brand that is hard to get parts for and no one backs it up

joyner is known as the tough brand that stands behind their products
now you ask if its worth the extra $$$ heck ya the stuff is said to be tough as anything american the welds are strong and the suspension is way better then any other

When I decided to buy a larger machine I looked a long time. The notion that parts are hard to find I think is false. A couple short years ago maybe. But I have friends who race desert cars and they aren't joyners they are roketas and they have done amazing things with their machines. Do they break?...they all break. even 100k sand rails and trophy trucks. You can take a roketa and upgrade parts and add mods and reinforce the frame etc and still pay less than a Joyner stock, which you will want to turn around and mod anyway eventually. And joyner parts are not cheap. ( I have to say in this economy though you will see people dumping good machines dirt cheap because they need the money)
The spider i bought used is a tank (very heavy) and I bought it instead of a roketa only because I really like the look of the frame better than that of the rok. And I also bought this one because the guy dropped an 800cc engine and alot of other mods I liked.
You gotta look at all the angles and finding a source for parts and service should be high on your list. There are some screamin deals out there right now on Craigslist etc. on used machines. I like to stay away from saying any single one is hands down the best because they all have pros and cons and there are always tradeoffs.
just my humble 2 cents...

You can get a good deal in SoCal and AZ on the larger buggies. Like others have pointed out, there are quite a few people in financial straights. With patience, you will find a good buggy on Craig's List or other local ads. There are plenty of BuggyNews members in your area that can even help you check out perspective buggies.

I bought a Roketa because of the price. However, I had lurked this forum for a while, and even joined and asked some questions before I did, so I didn't have any disillusionment about what I was getting.

If you don't mind working on the buggy as much as you ride it (sometimes more), the Roketa's can be a good deal. It was easier for me to justify spending less for the buggy, and buying lots of replacement parts over time, and I enjoy working on it.

Ask BIGE how much parts have cost me in the last year 8) , but we've managed to ride the original tires bare, and have had fun, so it works for us.

If you are not keen on spending lots of shop time with the buggy or spending lots of money on replacement parts, I would recommend spending more money upfront and getting the best quality you can.

edit: Let me add that we are working out the bugs in the buggy, and I fully believe we will have a very good machine once the gremlins are all out. Ultimately, we love our buggy. It's a blast!
