Sliders can get your variator open fully for maximum full-range use, even when using lighter weights (depending on the strength of your main clutch torque spring, of course). Their shape form-fits to the space between the variator ramp and the top plate - a roller can't get all the way out like that.
Dyno results have shown that sliders engage up to 20% faster than rollers of the same weight, and many people have reported much smoother and faster acceleration after switching to sliders.
Both rollers and sliders wear out over time. Rollers develop flat spots which lead to jerking during acceleration and slowing down. Sliders already have flat sides on them - which still wear, but since they're already flat the negative effect is minimized.

I have run both in my wife's. I got better top end and acceleration from the sliders, but more bottom end from the rollers, the rollers were just flat when accelerating, while the sliders you could tell they were working
