The winch on the sand spider has 2 relays in it one for out and in, I recently sunk my machine in some soupy muskeg and burnt out a relay,

The hard thing is finding internal parts for it, the relay is made in china and doesnt seem to cross reference to anything, Joyner has the winch but not internal winch parts, the winch doesnt even have a brand name on it so I cant even look that way,

I am wondering if anyone else has had to change these and if so what did you use?

It is a Yishen LCARH-1C-12D relay,

Thanks

I agree this this a good time to upgrade the winch. I have to double-line mine when I really get stuck to get enough pull.

The winch does work pretty hard and usually I have to be spinning tires and winching to get out of places, the relay would be a cheaper fix though,

What size and brand of winchs did you go with? I think the stock one is 2000lb with a 25' cable,

I am thinking at least a 3000lb with ~50' cable, sometimes you have to run a longs ways to find a decent tree, a whole switch change is worth half as a new winch so a new one might be better,

I went with a 2000lb 50' cable, but I went with a Warn brand winch and the difference is amazing. it pulls at least three times as hard. It cost quite a bit more, but if you really need a winch to get you out, you dont need a weak POS, you need one that will hang the buggy from a tree if necessary.

Harbor Freight always has 5000-8000 lb winches on sale. They are heavy but are inexpensive and have large capacity reels. You would need to measure the available space to see what you could fit. When looking at these winches, assume that the real ratings are half of what is published.

Hey Dark,

Im probably going to be pulling mine off and selling it on Ebay or whomever needs it. I need to check if its working or not because I've never had to use it. To tell you frankly, I dont even know how to use it. PM me and let me know, I live in So. Calif so not sure what shipping will cost.

I am finding that a lot of winches that are for sale do not come with the same control unit for the switch. I too fried up those 2 relays and am in desperate need of repalcements, but cannot find a corss reference.... #-o I purchased another winch, cant recall the brand at the moment (at work) and it comes with a hand held switch for IN and OUT. I successfulyl wired it up to the old existing switch box from the stock winch and it worked fine until the relays burnt out.

Being able to replace those relays would be much more cost efficiant not to mention a lot of winches you will buy will come with hand held switches. I dont know about you guys but I like the switch on the dash, so i just wanted to use existing wiring.

So nobody has found a cross reference for these relays? I sure would like to know... :(

The main problem with the Joyner relay box is that it is not water proof and well hit a couple puddles and we all know how that ends!

For mine I replaced it with a control box that was water proof, cost about $50 and didnt take long to re wire, uses same winch and switch. It was a "SuperWinch ATV Winch Switch Upgrade Kit".

Works just like stock but dont have to worry about water anymore!
