The tensioner has a pawl that holds a piston in place that the spring pushes against the piston to remove slack in the chain. The piston will go out but the pawl keeps it from going back in. You don't need to release the tension to pull the cam but will need to either remove it or push the pawl down...

The problem you have with longer fronts is the spherical bushings will bind at the bottom of the travel. Not sure what the limits are, Dune or GmanLv may know for sure.

A spare axle would be a good thing to have as a spare, sprockets, chains, front and rear axle bearings, spool bearings, throttle and shift cable, a full set of heim joints ( tie rod ends) for the front end and spherical bushings. You guys may be interested in some of these videos, here are some really quick Yama's.

Just got back from Windrock in Tn and didn't see a single YXZ there. I did see a few X3s there. This is a park with mild to very extreme technical trail riding. A lot of the more technical stuff were below 5mph.
