Well try to make this as short as possible lol. I bought a Talon GSX 150 2R and got $500 off because it was sitting for a few months outdoors, it was new but had a little rust and wear. Well first day home it would not go in reverse, then after driving for about 30 minutes it would not go forward. So I took it back and asked if I could get a new one and would even give the other $500 to get one. Well they gave me a new one in the box and said it was exactly the same lol. The first thing I noticed was it was way smaller inside and out, I am 6'5 and I could stretch out my legs almost all the way in the GSX, the new Red ZR R2 Model had an adjustable steering wheel and even with it all the way up my knees were in front of the console lol. It was red other was blue and the new red one was a ZR 150 R2 and as we finally noticed after thinking we were losing our minds and the manual was in Chinese, the manual was for the GSX, they had just put little stickers over the GSX with the new numbers lol. Well we spent all day putting it together only to find it had all the same problems as the first one. We had to adjust the reverse cable to get it to work and had to clean the carb after sputtering. It finally would not go at all forward. We jacked it up and it would rev as high as it could in reverse but not in forward. The tech at Rural King where I bought it said (as always) it was the carb. How can it be the carb when it goes fast in reverse but not forward? #-o [-X Well after spending 6 whole days trying to fix it we took it back and they gave me one which said was exactly the same again and found not only it was a little bigger but it said "Maxxam" on it instead of Talon. Well it does the same dam thing no surprise huh? It revs and goes in reverse but won't go forward and just dies when you floor it lol. Well I'm tired of working on em and the "tech" :^o said he usually has to rebuild the carb and make all of the usual adjustments on all of them right out of the box, and I can tell you that's A LOT of adjustments, like every bolt nut and screw is lose on the parts and body the OEM put together and he said that all that Chinese rubber and Fuel Filter and such are junk and would replace it all. Anyway thanks for any advice or tips, I am hoping to get it running and tweak it as much as possible. I will update my photos and stuff asap guys! Thanks again!

Well, who ever your dealing with is the problem. These buggys do have their issues from time to time but they dont come straight out of the box as junk. Just doesnt work that way. Youve got some people up there that obviously shouldnt even be near a wrench. Your shifting problem is in your cable. They can be a pain to get just right sometimes and is easier with someone to help you. Get the gear problem fixed and then we will move to the sputtering.

Well like I said they are gonna rebuild the carb and stuff but are you saying that you think it won't go in forward now because of the forward and reverse cable? If so I can adjust it very ez. Right now it goes in reverse and in forward it just barely runs and when you press gas down about half way it tries to get power then just dies. Thanks for your response...... :)

What you are describing sounds like a stuck variator or pinched CVT belt. Reverse has a 3:1 reduction, so it overcomes this.

Yes, I just adjusted it back like it was when I got it and it will lock in reverse and forward and it will go forward but has 10% of the power it should have, it goes in reverse about prolly 70 to 80% of what it should have. In forward it tries to die with pedal pushed all the way, reverse don't do that. Also just like the previous 2 I had it went fine forward for 5 minutes and that was it lol. Thanks for the reply..........

Well guys thanks for the quick replies, with a lot of thinking & a little tweaking on the air control screw & the gear cable, mostly the air screw I got it running top speed. I'm sure I will need more help soon lol. Everytime I get one running great I get another problem. See you guys soon, thanks again!!!

we have to adjust the air fuel screw on some but not all. most of the time its fine.

keep the air filter clean and the oil changed and the buggy will last a long time.
