I just bought a schwin speedometer from walmart ($10) today. Opened the package and noticed that the wire for the magnet is going to be too short. I'll post pics shortly. How do you make this wire longer.

I thought speedos cost $4??

Anywho...that wire is nothing special. The sensor is just a magnet-sensitive switch so any 2-conductor wire will work. Phone or alarm system wire is at Radio Shack. Cut your wire at a convenient spot and strip the conductors back being careful not to nick the insulation where the wires could short together. Solder (preferred) or twist the extension in and wrap it all up good in electrical tape. Even better is heat-shrink tubing over the splices.

Thanks for the help Mark.

Adam, we have the wire, heat shrink, and connections at work. If everything goes as planned we'll be able to go out there either Saturday or Sunday. I think mom has stuff planned for us on Saturday, so it'll probably be Sunday.

I'll be home late Friday from this week's business trip, see ya' then.

I just bought the same speedometer from wal-mart and I was wondering if you have some pictures of the magnets and sensor installed.

Thanks, and sorry for bumping this old thread
