The boss pin on the variator will not come off. Anyone else ever had this problem??? I have it took apart right now so quick ideas would be great. Clutch bell was stuck too but I used a puller on it. Boss pin is total different. Variator came off but the pin and back plate stayed. Sorta need them off to to replace the weights.

Got it, never mind. Apparently this thing sat outside ,in the rain, where we bought it from. BTW this was the Pace Sidewinder (aka Kinroad Sahara 150CC).
The clutch bell was rusted on, variator fan rusted on, and boss pin rusted on. Well the had a small layer of rust between parts and the shaft.

Thank God it came off it would have been impossible to install the rollers with out it coming off. But I got it and now that Sidewinder is scary. The good kinda scary.
1500rmp torque spring and 9 gram rollers. I think I took out some 17 grams or heavier. I need a scale but are the heaviest I've seen in the buggies we have. there was about a 1/4" holein the middle but the 9 grams have almost a have a 7/16" hole.

yep those can be nasty mine was stuck once,it had a little rust inside the pin.i think it was cause from heat then cooling causing condensation. i have my kick start gears out pull the clutch off then took a flat long like screwdriver put between gear on crank and ramp plate tap it a couple times with hammer it popt off, it was tight.then took some fine emry to inside of pin and crank took rust off the put a thin, thin layer of anit-seize inside of pin. so far that has been working.
i also add just a touch of high temp grease to back needle bearing on clutch the front bearing is sealed.i don't add much grease don't want it getting out of there getting on to things.
glad you got it off ok sorry for rambling i just i had to scratch my head a little figure out how i was going to get out of that pickle

Pud, I know what you mean. I was sitting there trying to figure out what I was going to do cause I had the variator already off and the weights out. I couldn't get the ramp plate out to hold everything together when I would put it back in. I knew I couldn't use a puller on the ramp plate cause I was afraid if it was really stuck and I would bend the plate. So I just got a screw driver behind it a pried just a little and it moved. Pried a little more and got it to move all the way off. I'm thinking it was condensation like you said. I just cleaned it out with a rag and cleaned the out put on the crank. It moves smoothly now so it should be good.
Also I checked the bearing in the clutch pulley. That is just good preventive maintenance to check to make sure it has plenty of grease.

you should be ok i just had the stuff and used it.i don't like to be inside of the cvt to much but i think its good to open it up from time to time and clean things. i really need to do mine now i get alot of belt dust and dust built up in my variator .i get a chatter like jerking when that happens.i can clean the sliders and ramps on variator and does fine. i probably should go to a better filter setup on cvt cover all i'm running is a piece of nylon window screen doubled over and clamped down on cvt cover

My boss pin and top plate is stuck on there right now! I was going to change the slider weights in the variator and experienced the same thing as you - except I didn't have a decent available tool to pry it off.
Since we store our buggies out near where we ride at a friend's property (170 miles from here...), I have to wait until we go back to bring the proper tool to get that off. I got a 3-clamp gear puller that I hope will provide enough grab to get that boss pin loosened and the top plate off of there. Hopefully that will do the trick without bending it (as you mentioned).
Yours is about the 4th time I've seen someone mention this problem in the past couple of weeks, so apparently it's not all THAT uncommon!
That pin should rotate with the crank at all times,AT ALL TIMES!If crank spins and the pin does not, problems. You can put on a very litte anti-sieze on the shaft but be very carefull not get it anywhere else.
