after lots and lots of pondering, i have decided to upgrade my suspension before i do anymore engine upgrades. i figure if i can't blow through the terrain now, all the motor in the world won't help. that being said, i have decided on fox coil overs(i plan on using the stock springs) there are a million choices out there, and i'm really confused. should i take a front and rear shock to a shop and say "what do i need"? i have an 800cc sk-2. what length have y'all used? 2.0 or 2.5? i ride the deserts of so cal hard. on my kx500, it was a matter of heavier springs and some re-valving, but i'm new to the buggy world. you guys have given me great advice so far and have got me this far, chime in and help a buggy rookie out...thanx in advance.

I don't know if your stock springs will fit over a 2.5". Measure the inside diameter of the stock springs just to be sure. I run the 8.5" travel 2.0 air shocks. The overall length is around 24". Check your eye to eye on the shock mounts with the suspension dropped out. That will give you a good idea of how much shock you can fit in.

As far a valving or any questions for that matter, call Fox technical service. They will be happy to help get you set up.

Good luck with your choice,
mick

I run King 2.0 and Fox 2.0 but the King's rule in the ruff stuff if you can afford them. :P
Ya Mick's right if your not going to buy from a dealer you will definantly need factory help. Just FYI if your going to use the stock springs you might as well keep the stock shock, They dont have any squish or rebound there way too stiff.
I can get you Fox 2.0's coilovers for @ $1500.00

With duel rate springs, complete bolt on kit.
If you going to run the whoops I'll tell ya thats why I have remote reservoir, thats the only way to keep the oil cool and the shock working correctly. Fox remote's are @ $1800

Yep, Ocotillo and Superstition mostly. My air shocks work pretty well but as far as soaking up the whoops...well it ain't like a long travel with double bypass kings on it. If you look at my upper rear frame section , just above the rear tires, you'll find rubber from the tires impacting that frame rail. I like to call it my bumpstop. My point is, there is a compromise to be made in any set up. For the majority of my riding, the air shocks are fine. It handles moderately rough terrain very well at speed and very rough terrain requires a slower approach. But for banging through deep whoops at speed, I'm sure there is a better choice.
