Ya, you need it. Is this on your 250? Without the swaybar, the rear end will come down too far on bumps and bottom out on your CVT cover. The rubber bushing can work its way out and then its just a matter of time before the swaybar goes.
What part broke? Besides what Tom said, it makes the rear sway Real soft. Soft coming out of a turn you just eat up the torque.
My wife broke the mount for the rod that goes from the trailing arm to the sway bar. I just got a few washers and welded them together. Then welded it in place. Good to go

The whole bar just broke in two. We've been using it without and I'm not concerned. I believe it's more of a part for stability at higher speeds. And since it's a 250 and not a 125 I don't have to worry about high speeds.
I understand what they do on cars.
Didn't the original Rhinos come w/out sway bars?

I imagine that as long as you aren't driving it too hard, you should be OK. It does make it real soft riding though but if you hit a big bump, you'll bottom out on your CVT cover.
I have found that there is very little on these buggies that you don't need. If it wasn't nesassary, they would leave it off to save a buck or two.
For future referance, If you want to replace it, the part # is 6.000.243 and its called the Balance Lever.
