I hear you Kell,

I would like someone to compare a modified pipe like I have to the eastside pipe if and when it comes in. I need to know there will be significant performance gains as well...before I pay the 250 bucks.

...and you are right, the most noticeable change is the acceleration in the mid range. In fact, probably all you'll see in the videos is a couple seconds defference in time going down the block and far less bogging in the mid range.

The gap is 32. My manual says 25-30. The good thing was, I got to try it before I buy it sort of thing. I would not have kept it if it did nothing. 70 bucks is 70 bucks.

I'd also like to point out, this CDI costs 70 bucks. Now where can we find it for 30? Since the brand is now known we can hopefully find it for a price cheap enough not to stress out over the cost!

Honestly, I think that is a good price. Other CDIs by the same company can are $100 or more on line.

Well,

Went out and did some testing on the stock CDI vs the perf CDI. Not convinced it is a difference which is worth it. Shot some video, but the sound quality is not good enough to hear the mid range drop with the stock. The only video which demonstrates anything is the donuts my wife pulled at full throttle. The perf CDI spins tighter 180's more readily and require letting off of the throttle more often to reduce flippige.

I carefully measured out the distance between my car and a for sale sign down the road. 711feet give or take a foot. I ran the kart five times each. The results were consistent. The stock CDI produced runs consistently in the 19-20 second range. This is roughly an average speed of 25mph. The perf CDI was consistently 16-17 seconds. This equates to an avg speed of 29mph.

Not significant but a more scientific proof that it does make a difference. Now I want to know if the eastside pipe will make for better power than a modded pipe. Anyone who modded their pipe like mine gonna get an eastside pipe?

3 seconds for $70 is an incredible gain.. that is unbelievable. If the runs are consistant for all karts then it is well worth the $$$$ IMO.

Thanks for the report.

Your welcome stu,

My only point is that if you are looking for better wheel spinning at low speeds, then this CDI will help. But if you are looking for top end improvement, the perf CDI is not the answer. Well before the 711 foot mark, the buggy was at top speed regardless of CDI. Basically, I got there 3 seconds faster, but if I was racing a quarter mile, I would still have got there 3 seconds faster. No what I mean Vern?

If you can help the engine at all, then you can increase speed by sprocket ratio change or roller change in the CVT. Increasing engine performance lets us do other changes without negatively impacting low end as much. So I think this is great, if youa re getting that much more. This just means you can be happy with the better low end power or move up the ratio somewhere and gain more speed at top end with similar low end before you made the move.

Win win either way.

Can't wait for the performance cams to come in.

3 seconds sounds like quite a bit to me. that sounds like it would probably be worth it.

Is there any chance the buggy was "fresher" with the performance cdi? As in, did you make a few runs with the performance cdi while it was cool, then plug the stock one back in after the engine was hot and run it again?

I am only asking because you have me wanting one now.

Thats sort of what I did. I started up the buggy and let it warm up for about 5 minutes. The, I drove it around the block twice at full throttle. I then did the perf cdi trials, turned off the engine, plugged in the stock cdi and did the same thing.

It was a 75 degree day. So the buggy was "fresher with the perf CDI". I should do it in reverse order I suppose...
